Americans Speak Out on the Unemployment Extension Delay
Last week we reported on ”Unemployment Extension Benefits: What’s it Like at the Coal Face?” In response to that, we’ll publish over the coming week a series of articles highlighting many of our readers replies to that and other stories, in an effort to get their message across to he Government.

You can help too, by telling your friends and family to write in and post their views here, post on Facebook, Twitter or by any means available. Just keep getting the word out there. By keeping the news of your hardship on the front page, you send your message across the nation, even the world.

Your stories expose the irreparable damage being done to families across the nation by the failure of the Government – both Democrats and Republicans, to take quick and decisive action and ratify the unemployment extension bill.

Readers sent in the following, in response to the “Unemployment Extension: Senate and House Members ‘Get By’ on $174,000“ story.

“I am astounded that this can happen to so many Americans all at once. I will remember come November 2010. I have never missed voting since I was 1st a registered voter. I too am educated and can not find a job. I have had to make some very weird promises to people just to put food on our table. I am doing what I have to do until the wealthy decide on paying my unemployment insurance. It is a real shame with both the UC and insurance, you pay in but they will not pay out.”

“FEED MY FAMILY! PUT GAS IN MY CAR! PAY MY UTILITIES! PAY MY RENT! And they think we use the money for drugs… There’s not much left over even to go enjoy a movie with family. DRUG TEST ME JUST GIVE ME MY MONEY $$$”

“They don’t care just like the company I worked for didn’t care about laying me off either after 12 yrs. All the time I worked I had to pay taxes because I made to much money. And now they don’t want to give me unemployment because there is no money?? Where did all the money too,”

“Where is our Leader? …. These heartless bastards need to work TOGETHER to get this done. There are families that are now homeless because of The Senates inability to work TOGETHER… There are folks so hopeless right now that they’re killing themselves! Their Blood is on the Senates hands! I have one word for ALL the Senators….
COMPROMISE!”

“Americans are sick of politician’s blatant, callous actions placing many in harm. This country’s leaders only represent themselves not U.S. interests! …..I have no respect, no trust, and no faith in this government whatsoever. I lost it many years ago. I hope all Americans will remember these recent major events, and realize THEY REALLY DON’T CARE ABOUT YOU!”

1. the elected financial elite just piss me off - they are receiving pensions beyond what
the average worker will ever know - while being catered to hand and foot by underlings that are also paid by taxpayer dollars.

3. I agree.
We should take away all the benefits that congress gets, including health care, and any kind of retirement they get when they leave office. For those who are not millionaires, we could give them a retirement once they turn "70" and are no longer in congress. For those who are already filthy rich, they get nothing! Also for those who have other sources of income besides what they make as members of congress, their pay should be reduced according to their net worth. Cut out all other perks they get as members of congress. Let's see how they like it!

The president needs to do something now to get this fixed. I don't know what, but he needs to kick some ass on both sides of the isle. If he and the democrats in congress can get this fixed so the people who are unemployed can get an extension, it needs to be done! Any democrat, NELSON comes to mind, who does not vote for the extension needs to be removed from any committees and no money should be given to them from any campaign funds the democrats have. Let them fend for themselves come election time. Get the bill passed, and make those who voted against it suffer, no matter what party they are in, use their NO vote against them come election time!

6. If there is an entitlement that needs to be cut it's Congressional pensions - ALL of them
Let's cut the deficit on the backs of the people who are out to destroy the Social Safety net. THEY don't *deserve* a damned thing.
