Looks like Gwen Ifill has begun her contributions to the GOPs campaign against Obama and the Democrats.
YOu won't find it on any transcript at the PBS NewsHour site (too bad) but when Ifill introed a report on the Stimulus Package one year anniversary she referred to it as a "much maligned" effort.
REALLY, Ms. Ifill, so the Corporate Lobbyist party's relentless criticism of everything Obama does to repair the economy from the economic calamity the Republicans caused is a representative sample of the opinion of Obama's stimulus bill? This is your summation of the entire spectrum of opinion on Obama's stimulus bill? Uh, can you say "BULLLLLLLL-SHIT"?
I guess Ms. Ifill forgot that just about every professional economist interviewed in the last year has generally had positive things to say about Obama's stimulus bill. Of course, Ms. Ifill missed it that the stimulus is generally recognized by unbiassed (and knowledgeable) observers (this would leave out all Republicans), to have helped us avoid a second Great Depression. Now, if criticism of the stimulus package was raised, it was THAT THE STIMULUS SHOULD HAVE BEEN BIGGER. OF COURSE, IFILL FORGOT THAT THE DEMS HAD TRIED TO BUY REPUBLICAN COOPERATION FOR A STIMULUS BY CONVERTING ONE THIRD OF THE STIMULUS TO TAX CUTS (which economists recognize does not stimulate the economy or jobs).
THE DEMOCRATS LAST FEBRUARY KNEW TIME WAS CRITICAL. THEY KNEW THAT A STIMULUS DELAYED WOULD BE A STIMULUS FAILED (AND SO DID THE REPUBLICANS!). They were concerned about the uniform opposition to a stimulus by the Corporate Lobbyist Party so they bought the GOPs cooperation (they thought) by reforming a third of the stimulus bill to tax reductions. --- which all the economists knew would NOT BE STIMULATING - because in a depression, when people are afraid of losing their jobs, they tend to save any additional money (they would get in take home pay) or use it to pay down debt!
But the Democrats, anxious to avoid GOP delays relented and converted a major part (one third) of the stimulus into tax cuts. In the end, not one Republican voted for the Stimulus bill in the House and in the Senate exactly three Republicans voted for it.

But perhaps Ms. Ifill referred only to the Republican 'take' on the stimulus as they are so knowledgeable regarding economics. i mean look at how well their policies worked during the http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1942834,00.html">"Decade from Hell" as Time magazine called it: zero job growth, median family real incomes went down, family wealth went down. And this was BEFORE getting to the Great Deregulation Disaster ("the markets will police themselves"__A. Greenspan). Yes, the Republicans really know how to make an economy grow, just give tax cuts to the wealthiest few percent and increase the burden on the middle class and float an economy with excess money supply to keep rates too low for too long. That's how you build an illusory boom.
Ms. Ifill doesn't fail to deliver the Corporate Lobbyist Party propaganda. I only watch PBS Newshour anymore to document the disinformation they disgorge. It's a lousy job but somebody's got to do it.
