Chuck Grassley - Without the Sheep's Clothing!
Edited on Wed Sep-02-09 03:16 PM by gwojtowy

The smoking gun is here:

Finally we see how Senator Grassley intended all along to stall and delay the whole thing and maybe sabotage the whole thing.

Ezra Klein and Wonkette have some fascinating things to say about it!

But I still have a few things to say. Grassley could have come out early and said that he was opposed to health care reform, if his constituents opposed it he should have been more honest. Instead he chose treachery.

Well now we know where it stands. In the words of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young:

Tin soldiers and Nixon's coming
We're finally on our own

URGENT HEALTH REFORM UPDATE
FROM SEN. CHUCK GRASSLEY
HELP STOP OBAMA-CARE''

Dear (redacted*)

I had to rush you this Air Gram today to set the record straight on my firm and unwavering opposition to government-run health care. . .
And ask your immediate support in helping me defeat Obama-care.''

I'm sure you've been following this issue closely. lf the legislation sponsored by Speaker Nancy Pelosi in the House of Representatives and Chairman Ted Kennedy' in the Senate is passed it would be a pathway to a government takeover of the health care system. It would turn over control of your health care decisions to a federal bureaucrat. . .** and take it away from you and your personal physician.

It would mean government rationing in the name of cost controls.

Your quality of life would most certainly suffer, and I seriously question if a government-run health care monopoly would really save taxpayer funds.

Of course like you. and just about everyone I hear from, I am deeply concerned about rising health care costs and I am committed to doing what I can to bring meaningful change that will accomplish this result.

That's why as ranking member of the Senate Finance Committee. I have taken a strong and principled position focusing on the wrongs of a government-run insurance plan.

The reality, however, is that Democrats have 60 votes in the Senate and control both the White House and the House of Representatives. In other words, they can pass any legislation they please with that majority.

I am working in the Senate to develop a viable alternative that is free-market based and rejects the pitfalls of government-run insurance. As a result, the public is being given time to see the reality of what has been rushed through by Speaker Pelosi's House committees and
Senator Kennedy's committee.***

Grassroots America now has time to make itself heard loud and clear against the kind of socialized medicine sought by President Obama and liberal Democratic leaders in Congress.

(Over, please. . .)

As a loyal supporter and close friend, I wanted you to have this special report: ''straight from the horses mouth.'' You see, Ive been contacted by folks confused by misleading reports from Washington about my work on this critical bill.

You know me, and you know that I'm not one to play games, pull punches or attempt to deceive anyone.

The simple truth is that I am and always have been opposed to the Obama Administration's plans to nationalize health care. Period.

In the days ahead I will visit Iowans at the state fair and communities around the state. - I look forward to hearing their concerns. ideas and advice. Like always, I look forward to the chance to tell it like it i s.

It is more than a little alarming that rumors and lies are already starting to fly so early in my campaign.

Leaders of-the Democratic Party look at recent election results and they smell blood. Obama won Iowa comfortably Democrats control a majority of Iowa's congressional seats, the Governor's mansion and both the Iowa House and Senate.

I believe this is all indication that my coming re-election campaign may be the nastiest and most vicious ever.

That's why it is more important than ever for me to increase campaign activity and raise our fundraising efforts. Any sign that I am vulnerable would mean that Democrats will target me hard for defeat and groups like Moveon.org and ACORN will pour their resources into Iowa.

Will you help me continue my commonsense conservative Republican leadership with a gift of $100 or even $200? Even in Iowa campaigns have increased in cost and unless I am able to once again win support from friends like you I could find myself in a tough battle.

Your contribution of $100 or more today 'will help me continue to build a campaign war- chest and launch my re-election effort on a sound footing.

Please. Richard. let me hear from you right away.
Sincerely,

Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa

P.S. - I hope you weren't unduly concerned to receive this Air Gram in your mailbox, but I had to make absolutely certain that you were aware of the truth. In a few weeks I will return to Washington to continue the fight for holding the line on health care costs and against a government takeover of our health care. I hope I have your continued support and appreciate your consideration of a gift of $100 or whatever you can afford to send now. Thanks again for your generosity and friendship.

On the original it is scribbled "Received 8/10/09."

1. Remember, health care for all means even those you hate will have health care.
We can't have that, now can we?
