The War on Mormons Has Begun!
Jonah Goldberg is a conservative columnist who likely has a difficutl time typing in high heels. He’s a drama queen, and this time it is about Mormons as victims in the aftermath of Proposition 8, a measure they bankrolled to limit the rights of our fellow citizens. It’s a War on Mormons for Goldberg, just like the bogus War on Christmas.

16. From the pages of history

From the website of "International Brotherhood Days"
http://www.brotherhooddays.com

BRIGHAM YOUNG (Founder of the Church of Latter Day Saints):

In 1857 Brigham Young ordered an armed force of Mormon men under the command of Mormon elder John D. Lee to, "...waylay our enemies, attack them from ambush, stampede their animals , take their supply trains.... to waste away our enemies." Elder Lee followed Young's order in his attack on a wagon train in the infamous Mountain Meadows massacre. The attack was deliberately fashioned to blame the attack on the Paiute Indians, which helped inflame public attitudes against the First People of Utah.

Twenty years later the truth of the conspiracy was brought to light. It was widely reported at the time, that Brigham Young believed that sacrificing Lee would pave the way for Utah's admittance as a state to the United States. Lee was taken to the site of the Mountain Massacre and made to sit on his coffin. As the firing squad drew aim Lee cried out, "Center on my heart boys. Don't mangle my body." 55).

On the 150th anniversary of the slaughter, in September of 2007, Mormon Apostle, Henry B. Eyring, issued an official expression of "regret" to the Paiute People for the actions of the church that orchestrated the murders and then conspired to place primary blame on the tribe for the massacre. 80).

The Mormon faith decrees that American Indians are direct descendants of ancient Israelites. Mormon anthropologist, Thomas Murphy, chairman of the anthropology department at Edmonds Community College in Lynnwood, Washington, conducted a scientific DNA study to determine the validity of this claim, which came up negative. On December 8, 2002, the church started excommunication hearings against Mr. Murphy for his attempts to bring light to the truth. 57). The Bible states in John 8:32 that, "The truth shall make you free." In this case the truth freed Mr. Murphy, against his will, from the Mormon Church.

Of course they are. Everyone knows the best thing to cure the munchies after smoking peyote is a big bowl of matzah ball soup :)

I'm not sure what matzah balls are. Is that the latest boy band?

Now for a serious note:

DNA disproves Mormon fairy tale about Indians

Bedrock of a Faith Is Jolted

DNA tests contradict Mormon scripture. The church says the studies are
being twisted to attack its beliefs.

By William Lobdell
Times Staff Writer

February 16, 2006

From the time he was a child in Peru, the Mormon Church instilled in Jose
A. Loayza the conviction that he and millions of other Native Americans
were descended from a lost tribe of Israel that reached the New World more
than 2,000 years ago.

"We were taught all the blessings of that Hebrew lineage belonged to us and
that we were special people," said Loayza, now a Salt Lake City attorney.
"It not only made me feel special, but it gave me a sense of transcendental
identity, an identity with God."

4. as an aside
outside of the entire seriousness of gays being persecuted and oppressed as second class citizens-- which is not lost on me and is a travesty and should be corrected by our highest court so that our election days are not used to perpetuate ignorance, prejudice, and unfair discrimination,

the irony of the Mormons "defending" the so called sanctity of marriage is not lost on me.

8. Yes, Eileen
For most of us marriage is an equal partnership. For Mormons, considering their stance on women, it is not. Forget about the plural marriage thing and they've still got some moral issues in my book.

21. I don't care for the Mormons either...
but it is funny to hear people talk about them, and Scientology. People call them cults, because they (cults) believe things that do not fall in-line with mainstream religion. Which is wackier- that Joseph Smith talked to angels and was told Christ visited America, or that our bodies are inhabited by the distressed souls of aliens that were killed millineum ago, or that some half man/half god (whose father created humans out of dirt) walked on water, turned water to wine, rose the dead, was killed, and rose three days later?

9. Can I make a suggestion?
If you truly want to take on a religious giant, like the Mormons, please support the Freedom From Religion Organization. They are a nonprofit organization that fights for the separation of church and state. Go to their website to learn more: http://www.ffrf.org/. Money donated to them is used to fight legal battles against religious charities and religious organizations who are using tax payer monies to further their ministries which is unconstitutional.

They have taken the lead in filing and winning more lawsuits around the nation than any other state-church group. They have taken on Pres. Bush and his Faith Based Initiatives and several other bogus religious charities. THE FACT WE HAVE TO SUE IN ORDER TO UPHOLD THE CONSTITUTION IS RIDICULOUS!

To learn more about the battles they have waged, won, and lost, you can buy Dan Barker's book: "Godless: How an Evangelical Preacher Became One of America's Leading Atheists". Chapter 17 "We Go to Washington", gives details the Bush Administration's Faith Based Initiatives program and how it has helped funnel BILLIONS of tax payer dollars to religious charities who do not have to be accountable for what they spend it for. It's ridiculous!

11. The Mormons made their "bed" and so let them lie in it...and leave the
bedrooms of the rest of us alone. The only good to come of this is the exposing of the Mormon bigotry to the whole world. Their door to door ministry has undoubtedly suffered a setback. At least I hope so. They better hope they never knock on my door again. They will be the one getting an earful.

12. War on Mormons? Sign me up!
I have known a couple of Mormons in my life. They always have had that glazed over look of someone that is in desperate need of some deprogramming. I knew a kid that got expelled from Brigham Young because his hair was past his shoulders and he refused to cut it.

13. Seriously, what is it with these people...
It's like they always have to have some war or another going on...if they're not actively fighting something, they're imagining themselves being the targets of organized "wars" being waged by others against THEM

War on drugs, war on poverty, war on Christmas, war on Mormons, war on terror, war on Pro Choice, war on religion, war on homosexuality, war on gay marriage, etc.

Is that their life's mission...fighting real or imaginary wars?

I just don't understand people who have to feel perpetually victimized or outraged...

19. It seems like all RW movements have a persecution myth at their center.
Look at the fundamentalists and their "persecution" by homosexuals and atheists. White supremacists always claim to be oppressed somehow by blacks and jews. The list goes on forever.

32. Oh, it's not just the Morans...er, Mormons....
I have some Catholic friends who also feel persecuted whenever they hear that religious fruitcakes aren't allowed to inflict their shit on the rest of us who don't want to hear it.

They cite "Freedom of Speech" and all, which is fine and dandy, but it just never occurs to them that the same freedom should also apply to religions they DON'T agree with.

They wanna interrupt public events with their praying? Well then...let's allow other religions the same privilege. That's when they get all offended...NO..it's only THEIR religion that should be allowed freedom of speech.

Then there are the people who think that such criticism means we're "picking on" their religions. Huh? OK, I get it...not all Catholics are assholes...but maybe instead of going after us, they should be going after the fuckwits who are giving THEM a bad name....
