On August 6 and 9, 1945. After six months of intense firebombing of 67 other Japanese cities, the nuclear weapon "Little Boy" was dropped on the city of Hiroshima on Monday, August 6, 1945, followed on August 9 by the detonation of the "Fat Man" nuclear bomb over Nagasaki. These are to date the only attacks with nuclear weapons in the history of warfare.

In Remembrance of Hiroshima and Nagasaki:

When the bombs were dropped I was very happy. The war would be over now, they said, and I was very happy. The boys would be coming home very soon they said, and I was very happy. We showed ‘em, they said, and I was very happy. They told us that the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki had been destroyed, and I was very happy. But in August of 1945 I was only ten years old, and I was very, very happy....

3. I've always found it interesting that the first bomb dropped on the Feast of the Transfiguration
The Feast of the Transfiguration is celebrated on August 6. From the Book of Common Prayer of the Episcopal Church of the United States:

Moses and Aaron among his priests,
and Samuel among those who call upon his Name, *
they called upon the LORD, and he answered them.

He spoke to them out of the pillar of cloud; *
they kept his testimonies and the decree that he gave them

Psalm 99:6-7, New Revised Standard Version

About eight days after Jesus had foretold his death and resurrection, Jesus took with him Peter and John and James, and went up on the mountain to pray. And while he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became dazzling white. Suddenly they saw two men, Moses and Elijah, talking to him. They appeared in glory and were speaking of his departure, which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem. Now Peter and his companions were weighed down with sleep; but since they had stayed awake, they saw his glory and the two men who stood with him. Just as they were leaving him, Peter said to Jesus, "Master, it is good for us to be here; let us make three dwellings, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah"--not knowing what he said. While he was saying this, a cloud came and overshadowed them; and they were terrified as they entered the cloud. Then from the cloud came a voice that said, "This is my Son, my Chosen; listen to him!" When the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. And they kept silent and in those days told no one any of the things they had seen.

Luke 9:28-36, NRSV

I've wondered for years if the date was deliberately chosen.

4. veracity
veracity

I am to young to remember the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombing (I was born in 1976) and therefore have just read about it in the history books, and in the movies, and fact stories who have coming every year since 1945...

But I am old enough to understand that the use of an nuclear weapon today, would harm the sender far more than everything else they could use.. Nuclear weapon are just a weapon you can't use.. After all, we know what happened in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, two cities who was bombed down and out in a single blast..

Today, the nuclear weapon to use is far more powerfully, and could possible destroy far more than the old Fat man and Little Man could do in the 1945 bombing of the two cities.

If US was ever to use nuclear weapon (and I point out USA because they have more than pointed out, that they are willing to use nuclear weapon against "difficult targets". The rest of the world would do more than just complain in the UN Security Council.. Yes they would absolutely complain there to. But even that it might never come to military means, the rest of the world, would, and should turn their back on the US. For a long time.. NUCLEAR WEAPON are a weapon you just can't use, period.. It is bad enough that the weapons exist. But to use it.... That would kill what sympathy United States of America had in the world.

Hopefully, the use of nuclear weapon is something in the past, even that I fear, and I would say FEAR that US would possible use a nuclear weapon against Iran before the current administration is out of office. I would not surprise my at all.. Not after all the sable rattling lately.
