Former KBR employee sentenced in fuel fraud scheme

A former KBR employee has been sentenced to 26 months in prison for his part in a scheme to defraud the Defense Department of $2.1 million worth of fuel.

James Sellman, 26, of Arnold, Md., who worked for the former Halliburton subsidiary in Afghanistan, pleaded guilty to charges of bribery, making false statements and filing false claims, according to a Justice Department statement. He was sentenced on May 9 and was also ordered to pay $675,000 in restitution to the Defense Energy Support Center.

Between May and September 2006, Sellman and other KBR employees conspired to accept bribes from drivers delivering fuel to the Army’s Bagram Airfield. KBR was responsible for unloading truckloads of jet fuel delivered to the base by Red Star Enterprises Ltd., according to the Justice Department.
