Labor's Climate Change Policies Will Boost Aust. Credibility
Source: Australian Broadcasting Corporation

"The head of a climate change review commissioned by state and territory leaders earlier this year says Labor's policies will go a long way to boosting Australia's credibility at the climate change meeting in Bali next month."

(snip)

"Us going back, signing Kyoto, will be encouraging for the same reasons and it will mean that our voice will be a bit more credible in the discussions in Bali," he said.

Professor Garnaut says progress towards reducing emissions will need to be led by developed countries.

He says the United Nations climate change meeting in Bali will provide an opportunity for Prime Minister-elect Kevin Rudd to secure international recognition for Australia's new direction."

George Bush is now completely isolated in his stand, and to make him feel even more alone, the new
leader of the Liberal Party, Brendan Nelson, is backing Kevin Rudd's position.

Perhaps we can now begin to get realistic on global warming.

1. "Credibility"...
Hmm, I remember that word. Used to be used quite a bit about Australia. Glad to see it back!!

Hope that Rudd, Wong, and Garret can start real change in how we deal with the environment and polluters.

By the way, for those who missed it, Peter Garret is now going to be Minister of the Environment, Heritage, and the Arts (cool!) and Penny Wong, Australia's first Asian-Aussie politician to take up a cabinet position, will be Minister for Climate Change and Water. She will be going with Rudd to Bali for the climate change conference. Wish them all the best!
