My Bush ripping letter in Joliet Herald
Bring 'em on

President Bush, to quote you, "Bring 'em on."

The records of your governorship in Texas, that you hid in your daddy's presidential library. Bring 'em on.

The military records that will show whether or not you went AWOL during Vietnam. Bring 'em on.

The evidence that can clear you of insider trading when you were a board member of Harken Energy. Bring 'em on.

The attendance sheets and the minutes to the secret energy policy meetings your vice president conducted with his close and personal campaign donors. Bring 'em on.

The congressionally requested 9-11 information that your administration has stonewalled the release of. Bring 'em on.

Another congressional request. The undoctored versions of the intelligence reports concerning Iraq's WMD program. Bring 'em on.

I hope this taunting thing works.

1. I like it
Short sentences, to the point, with an easily remembered tag line. Not to mention throwing Chimpy's own juvenile behavior back in his simian face. Good job, Wink.

5. I had a similar one printed in Sun Times July 16th
Go ahead, make my day

Since President Bush seems to think that taunting can work fighting the Iraqis, why not try it on the home front?

Hey, Congress, go ahead and stop giving additional tax breaks to the rich so that I won't have to pony up more. I dare you.

Yo, Kenny Lay, quit stealing money from investors. And that goes for all the other friends of President Bush. Or else!

Vice President Cheney, why don't you reveal what was said and who attended your secret energy policy meetings, which, by the way, were paid for with my tax dollar? What are you, scared?

Come on, Ashcroft, lay out the details of your plan to arbitrarily strip citizenships from Americans. I double-dare you to explain how they can then be put in jail without a fair trial, rights, or the knowledge of anyone. Chicken?

President Bush, show us the hidden records of your governorship, your crooked stock sales receipts, and, while you're at it, the military records that show you were AWOL. Bring 'em on.

Paul Winkelmann, Romeoville

9. Wink,
Keep up the good work. Printing both letters out to give to my 85 year old Mother, a political junkie. She will love them. Thanks for making her day!

4. Way to go, Wink!
Great to see that someone is getting through around here.

The Southtown won't print my letters any longer. Guess they got tired of me successfully rebuking the RW wackos who regularly contribute to their LTTE.

You'll have to be sure to make it to the next Chicagoland DU get-together.

8. Superb, Wink
Throw his words right back at 'im.

That could make for an effective Democratic campaign slogan!

I think it's good that your letter was printed in the suburbs. Lots of right-wingers, I suppose? So it will have an effect. I hope!

10. It probably won't get past the brainwashing
I really don't write these letters thinking I will change the minds of programmed Repugs. The party line is too inbedded in their tiny little minds. I do this for my own enjoyment and the enjoyment of like-minded liberals like myself.

11. I suppose, but...
I like to think it's more than preaching to the choir. There just have to be some moderates out there that are slowly becoming horrified at the Bush administration.

Aren't there?

12. I think there are
My parents live in very rightwing community and one of their friends from church said she was a lifelong republican who was switching her registration to democratic.
I think bushco is really blowing it's cover bigtime, and more people are waking up.
* jumped the shark with the carrier landing, and it's been downhill ever since, IMO.
Showing the pictures of the dead brothers is not going to play well to the moderates either. Only their rabid followers will approve of that, and they don't need to play to them.
So keep your chins up, you never know when something you say will sink in.
Great letter to the editor, btw!

14. You know, I think you are right, vidali
Besides my political views, I really was embarrassed and ashamed by the parading of these photos. The hypocrisy, all by itself, is horrible.

Policitical assassination; total disregard of Geneva Conventions; the list goes on.

I am ashamed of my government.

16. I am deeply grateful
to people like you who take the time to write a thoughtful well-written letter to the media. There is definitely an impact. I don't agree that you're not changing anyone's mind. There definitely is an effect, particularly when a person of the "opposition" reads the opinion of another citizen. Not some paid talking head or columnist. Thanks!
