In a sign that it is finally flexing its muscles, and starting to reclaim its proper Constitutional role after years of utter abdication to the Bush Administration, Congress has announced that it intends to put its nonbinding resolution on Iraq … into a binder!
As House Speaker Nancy Pelosi put it, “having the resolution in a nice fancy binder, maybe even with lamination, sends a message that the Congress is as serious as a middle school honors student, determined to get that extra credit.”
Senate Majority leader Harry Reid also emphasized that the binder would literally have teeth, to make sure that the pages stay protected, a problem recently experienced under the GOP-led Congress.
However, lengthy committee hearings are expected on the exact form of the binder. Although some Republicans are willing to cross the aisle and support the resolution, some have opposed the use of velobinding, which makes it that much harder to take apart, just in case Congress decides to unbind its nonbinding resolution.
