Afghanistan Reverts To Breeding Ground For Terror

The Bush Junta can't do anything right.

Five Years Later: Afghanistan Reverts To Breeding Ground For Terror

On October 7, 2001, following the attacks of September 11th, the United States, backed by allied forces from around the world, invaded Afghanistan to topple the Taliban government and root out Al Qaeda. In today’s Washington Post, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld writes, “Within weeks of our launching combat operations, …the Taliban regime had been defeated, consigning yet another cruel regime to the dustbin of history.”

But today — exactly five years after the initial invation — the Taliban has returned with a vengeance, the Afghan economy is in shambles, and reconstruction has faltered. What’s worse, Osama bin Laden, who directed the 9/11 attacks from Afghanistan, and Taliban leader Mullah Omar, who harbored him, remain at large. And, Afghan insurgents have imported tactics from the Iraq war, such as roadside bombs and suicide bombings.

2. And we were so worried about the women wearing burquas
and being subdued by their men. Remember when the war was virtually touted as a cultural revolution? We were going to save the women from the mean men who kept their faces covered and kept them under lock and key at home? I don't think America should be allowed to play in anyone else's sandbox for a while. We don't care if we play fair or kick sand in the faces of our playmates. Now, the civilians are being suicide-bombed at a rate previously unknown in those parts. I'll bet the girls would be glad to just get back into the burquas and go back to the good ol' days. I wonder if those poor Chinese people like all that rice they have to eat? I think we should start a war there to bring them hamburgers. Dammmit!
