Analysis: Terror war may need name change
Yup, that's all that's needed!!! Let's rebrand this pig, cause it's not playing well in Mid-America. Hmmm, lesee, The New and Improved War on Terror, with Optical Brightners and Fresh Lemon Scent!!! That'll do it!!!

WASHINGTON, Sept. 5 (UPI) -- The United States should rethink the label it uses for what is known as the "global war on terror," the chief of strategic planning on the Pentagon's Joint Staff said Tuesday.

What is needed, said Army Col. Gary Cheek, is to recast terrorists as the criminals they are.

"If we can change the name ... and find the right sequence of events that allows us to do that, that changes the dynamic of the conflict," said Cheek at the Defense Forum Washington, sponsored by the Marine Corps Association and the U.S. Naval Institute.

4. "recast terrorists as the criminals they are"
Well, if you treat going after them as a military matter, instead of a police matter, you're doing exactly the opposite of that, aren't you?

By playing up someone as 'a grave threat to the United States', you give them a lot of credibility and an instant seat on the world stage, eh?

7. Isn't that how the Clinton admin treated terrorists? As criminals?

Isn't that what Kerry said we should be doing in the '04 election?

10. Building a storehouse of missiles underneath a town or village... be
it Lebannon or anywhere else..should be a war crime.

Follow the international criminal court's guidelines for once. Cause nobody has put the fear of Allah into that wackjob in Khartowm.

For sure he is worried rebels will fight for independance in oil rich Sudan. His choice in to win a conventional war with the rebels. Or give up. Genocide should not be a freely actioned option for anyone.

USA has done a dis-service by running around the world and especially in Africa..with so many unstable nations..for * to run around and try and bully the countries into not signing up for ICC.. is just a travesty. Fortunately I think Kenya told the USA to go to hell.

12. Yeah. They made a lot of fun of people who suggested
a criminal law-enforcement model rather than a military approach to handling the whole terror thing in the early post- 9/11 days.

6. How about
a system or range of products where each person can customise the war on terror to their own individual needs?

For some it may be a police action, for others a violent struggle or a clash of civilizations or a new world order. You decide.

13. And they say the Dems have no plan...
This is the GOP/PNAC plan? Change the name? Sounds like nothing more than "Stay the course" with a new name to me.

16. "Global Struggle Against Violent Extremism"
was the new name briefly announced about six months ago. * used it in a speech once, if I remember right, and then it was dropped as unwieldy and somewhat ridiculous. (G-Save)
