Activists angry Marine reservist was allegedly pressured out of Ohio race

WASHINGTON - The Democratic blogosphere was abuzz Tuesday with the news that one of its heroes, Iraq war veteran Paul Hackett, had dropped out of the Ohio Senate race.

<snip>

“I just have one thing to say right now: Sherrod Brown better win this,” said Democratic blogger “Adam B” on the Daily Kos web site. “I hope that once Hackett's many supporters get over this disappointment, we can all work together this fall to make it happen. At the end of the day, Chuck Schumer's not the enemy -- Mike DeWine is, as is every other Republican who stands between us and control of the Senate.”

But blogger Bob Brigham, who played a role in Hackett’s House race, had a scathing and obscene reaction. “Schumer has now ***** up beyond all recognition the primaries in both Pennsylvania and Ohio,” Brigham said in an e-mail distributed Tuesday morning. He called Schumer “a complete ******* fool.”

Brigham is chagrined that Schumer has recruited anti-abortion candidate Bob Casey, Jr., to run in Pennsylvania.

“The shortsighted bossing of primaries both demoralizes Democrats and hurts future candidate recruitment,” he told MSNBC.com this afternoon.

1. I'd hate to be the one answering Reid and Schumer's e-mail and phones.
Hell, I gave 'em an earful...I know quite a few others did, too.

I want a pledge from them. If Brown loses (meaning that they did, in fact, fuck up), they'll resign.

2. This kind of crap is what the GOP does.

Now the Dems are doing the same crap buy forcing candidates out of the primary. Sad day indeed. Hackett can appeal to SW Ohio. Can Brown appeal to them too?

4. what we are witnessing is the Chamber of Commerce incubus moving
from one party to another. The GOP is dying (at least for the moment) and the money people are terrified someone running they don't own. It's not that Hackett was too liberal, it's that he wasn't owned outright by business interests the way all republicans and most establishment Democrats are.

Hackett shouldn't have backed down. It would have been better for him to fight this to the bitter end.
