Lifting White House spirits/D.Leas
TO: The staff
FROM: Karl Rove, White House deputy chief of staff and senior adviser to the president
RE: Office morale

First, a few loose ends. As you may know, a recent poll by FOX News indicates that the president's approval rating has dropped to a new low of 40 percent. Please rest assured that we are taking immediate steps to shore up support.

This morning, for example, I hand-delivered to FOX News Chairman and longtime Republican adviser Roger Ailes a list of suggested telephone numbers for the network to contact for its next poll.

If, in the days ahead, you should receive a call from a pollster at the network, PLEASE TAKE THE PRECAUTION OF DISGUISING YOUR VOICE before heaping praise on the president.

While we're on the subject of heaping praise, you've undoubtedly noticed that the liberal news media continues to ignore our many successes in Iraq and the war on terrorism in favor of reporting on inconsequential matters, such as a batch of old cards and letters sent to the president by Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers.

It is true that the future justice fawned and gushed in her messages to the president -- as well she should. The president has restored dignity to the White House and this nation, and he deserves our highest respect and admiration. I, in fact, send him many complimentary notes each day and frequently sign them with one of his favorite nicknames for me, "Turd Blossom."
