Bush's 'brain' leaked: Did Bush know?
By Jim Lobe

WASHINGTON - Battered by sagging poll numbers, new doubts in the aftermath of the London bombings about the effectiveness of its "war on terror" and no let-up in the bad news out of Iraq, the White House has found itself this week embroiled in yet another controversy, one that threatens the credibility, if not the tenure, of the man widely known as President George W Bush's "brain".

Thanks to the disclosure of email messages from a Time magazine reporter to his editor, it is now known that, contrary to categorical assurances by the White House two years ago, Karl Rove, Bush's deputy chief of staff and top political adviser, leaked the identity of a covert Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) officer, the subject of a criminal investigation by a federal grand jury.

At the time, Bush himself had assured reporters that he would fire anyone in his administration found to be responsible for the "outing" of Valerie Plame, the wife of ambassador Joseph Wilson, a retired diplomat who had published an article in the New York Times debunking Bush's assertions in the run-up to the Iraq war that Baghdad had tried to buy uranium yellowcake from Niger, presumably as part of a nuclear weapons program.

But now, with Rove "outed" as one of the sources of the leak, the White House is refusing to comment about the implications, insisting, in contrast to its assurances about Rove's innocence as recently as 14 months ago, that it would be wrong to say anything about the case while the grand jury investigation continues

Snip...
Another prominent neo-conservative, Clifford May of the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies, boasted two years ago that he was told by two "former government officials" of Plame's identity before Novak published his column. May worked as a reporter for the New York Times for 10 years before becoming communications director for the Republican National Committee, a post where he knew Rove quite well.

Who the hell is Clifford May and how did he get in this!!!

1. The only way to tell for sure is send Rove to Gitmo for torture. Let's get
to the bottom of this.

If Bush can't sort this out in his own house how can Americans expect him to sort out terrorism?

5. How does Rove fit in with the PNACers?
It seems to me there are two factions in the White House. There are the politicos and mentors that Bush has had for years like Rove, Karen Hughes, and Condi Rice. On the other hand, there are the neocons under Cheney, Rumsfeld, Libby, Bolton, Abrams, etc. Are these two separate factions or are they meshed together? Are they rivals for influence, power, and information or do they cooperate? Does everyone stop and listen when Rove speaks or does Cheney also expect the same deference? Would Rove be able to possess information that few others had or would Cheney also expect to have it, such as the identities of CIA Agents? (i.e. Cheney would demand knowing anything Karl Rove knows) It would also seem to me that the common denominator between the two is Bush's father, who put together the political team to help his son and who also worked with the neocons before. Somehow I can't help but think Poppy Bush has a greater presence beneath all of this than we realize.

7. Poppy In The Middle! Thank you for seeing

what has been clear to some of us all along.

The central figure in all this is ...... POPPY!

Do a search at DU for POPPY and your eyes will pop out.

Rove could not have been so powerful without Poppy.
The Saudi Connection would have never happened without POppy , etc. etc.

8. I think you are correct
We need to stop the Cheney line completely. Our country can't afford to let any of them continue after '08. They must be completely exposed never to return to politics again. If we don't, they will be looking for a new puppet to continue their pillaging of our country.
