English muffin blamed for evacuation of Wisconsin Capitol
A fire alarm set off by smoke in the state Capitol caused an evacuation before firefighters located the source of the problem - a toaster and a singed muffin.

"It was not too badly singed," said Justin Sargent, an aide to Sen. Judy Robson, D-Beloit, after conceding his English muffin apparently was responsible.

The toaster was on the Capitol's ground-level floor, in a joint office and snack room in the south wing.

"It's a communal toaster and we unplug it when we're done," Sargent said.

But firefighters said someone apparently didn't unplug it, and the resulting smoke set off the alarm at 8:11 a.m. Tuesday.
...
"There was a little bit of smoke, but no fire," she said. "There were crumbs, and the toaster itself. They reset the alarm system."

1. Whoever owns the toaster is liable!
Jerry Ford once told of his "English muffins" breakfasts. Was he culpable in this?

7. Remember Anthrax?
I worked at Disneyland (Anaheim) in 2001. The place is riddled with food vendors. When Anthrax became the scare do jour every time somebody discovered some "mysterious white powder" on a table where coffee is served they shut down that section of the park, called in the FBI, investigated for a couple hours, costing Mike Eisner a few million dollars and - Surprise! It always turned out to be sugar or creamer. Then there would be an intense investigation to find out ... NOT who called the panic, but who left the mysterious white powder!
I tell ya - them terristes are diabolical.

8. The English muffins were probably made in France
A true English muffin would have put the fire out itself.
