Doctor demands autopsy (on Yasser Arafat)
Doctor demands autopsy

Friday 12 November 2004, 8:14 Makka Time, 5:14 GMT

Deceased Palestinian leader Yasir Arafat's longtime physician Ashraf al-Kurdy has called for a full autopsy, saying the Palestinian people had a right to know how their leader died.

Dr al-Kurdy, who has attended to Arafat for more than 25 years, told Aljazeera the circumstances of his illness and death remained unclear.

"Arafat's case involved the deficiency of blood platelets, which implies that some substance that causes it may be available in his blood. Thus we decided to send him to France to continue investigating his health situation, namely the cause of the broken or deficient blood platelets.

"But unfortunately, we received no news from the French hospital. This is why we call for an autopsy for Arafat's body to learn more about the cause of his illness."

2. Suspect the man was poisoned
Arafat having immediate organ failure, think the liver went first. Wonder if his wife, etc. will allow the autopsy.

The troubling thing is those suspicions are confirmed, will be the ultimate whodunit case.

3. They must be pretty concerned...
Muslims, AFAIK, bury the dead as soon as possible according to tradition.

I really should know this completely, as my late father converted to Islam and was buried according to the custom, but to the best of my recollection, the Quran states that Muslims should be buried no later than sundown on the third day (who really wants a dead body above ground in the hot Arabian heat any longer than that?).

Edit: It's within 24 hours of death. :dunce:

15. literally before sundown, not 24 hours
but there's always exceptions:

Local councils also provide a separate facility where Muslims may be buried in accordance with the requirements of Shariah, therefore the deceased should be buried in the burial ground reserved for Muslims in that very same town or city. If there is a delay in burial due to legal requirements with regards to the release of papers or there is a need for a post mortem. Then in such compelling circumstances there will be no sin.

8. Mossaditits or Mossaditis? I'd say Ariel Sharon

has the first condition, needs a man-bra.

9. So what happens now? What does Islam say about

postponing burial due to autopsy?

11. This should also be a concern for Mordechai Vanunu
who was just re-arrested Thursday in Israel.

13. His nutcase wife will probably...
Refuse to have an autopsy done so she can blame Israel, Jews, are whoever for poisoning her husband. This is the same woman who claimed Jews were poisoning Palestinian water supply.

14. Therea are non-invasive ways to figure it out.
A skin, hair, blood, or waste sample can leave tell tale clues. I certainly hope someone is investigating it. Or facts and data don't mean much....
