Alabama Soldiers Deployed to Support Operations in Iraq
Nearly 9,000 Alabama Army and Air Guard personnel have been activated in the War on Terrorism since September 11, 2001. Now 200 more will join them.
Among them, about 80 members of the 122nd Corps Support Group in Selma. The unit will leave for mobilization Tuesday morning. The 122nd works in logistics, providing everything from guns to food for the battle. Major Welch with the 122nd Corps Support Group says, "We've got high morale right now. We're ready to go over there and do our jobs. Are they nervous? Oh, there's probably some anxiety but all in all, they're ready to go."
Deployment ceremonies will be held in Selma 8:30 Tuesday morning.

As the battle for Fallujah rages, about 500 Montana Army National Guardsmen are watching the television news with interest and apprehension.
Members of the I-163rd Infantry, a combat unit, are under orders to be based just north of Baghdad within the next few weeks.
"I don't think anyone is happy about going to war," PFC Mark Hall said Monday evening, "but every one of us has an outstanding resolve to do our duty."
Hall has just finished basic training and won't be deploying to Iraq with the rest of his unit, but he expects to be sent to war.
