Another Canadian province set to allow gay marriage.
The judge is expected to rule in favour of same-sex marriage, since neither the provincial nor the federal government plans to contest the application.

4. The home of Tommy Douglas
The province I live in has always found a way to look out for everyone. It started with the work of Tommy Douglas. He started North America's first government-run medical care insurance plan. Saskatchewan is a little late getting to the issue of same-sex marriage but better late than never.

And even though times seem tough in light of recent events, take some comfort my friends in the words of Tommy Douglas

“Courage, my friends, 'tis never too late to make a better world”.

12. Tommy's holding the lead for CBC's "Greatest Canadian"

Amazing, and deserving. And just imagine: a politician who never became Prime Minister, leader of the third party CCF/NDP, the "Greatest Canadian"! And yet his legacy is so great, and in large measure defines for us what Canada is, and how it is distinguished today from the United States.

19. GF and I are in complete agreement on Tommy as the "Greatest Canadian"
My grandparents were founding members of the CCF in Manaitoba, and my family now boasts four generations of New Democrats.

Tommy Douglas and the NDP are a testimony to the difference that a minority party can make in the face of a nation. His legacy should be pondered by disillusioned American Democrats before they decide to cut and run.

24. Very few women in the top 100.
And the highest ranked is Shania Twain (!)

And no artists, authors or poets. Carr, Atwood, Cohen? Helloooo, Canada?

Given it's a general interest popularity contest, we'll be lucky if Don Cherry doesn't win it!

6. The funny thing about this...
...is that the only issue being contested is who pays the court costs! Neither the feds nor the province contested the substance of the application, but they're wrangling over which of them has to pony up the cost of the non-litigation. Otherwise the whole thing would have been over yesterday!

Now THAT's civilized!

thinking Americans seem to be concentrated in the blue states along the north east coast and the west coast....He said "it looks like only the ignorant (in the red states) get to elect the president down there.".....(We're in Canada.)

Reverse brain drain: It's threatening the U.S. economy: Until recently, if Americans heard the words "brain drain," they knew clearly what that meant: Bright, talented scientists, engineers and other techies from all over the world were migrating to the United States. They were drawn here by the world's best universities, the most dynamic companies, the freest economic and social environment and the highest standard of living.

Today, while many of these conditions still apply, Americans are starting to hear a new term: "reverse brain drain." What it suggests is the United States is pursuing government and private-sector policies that, over the long run, could lead to a significant shift in the world's balance of brainpower

15. so, does that mean...
That if a couple goes to canada to get hitched, that the US will have
to recognize the marriage? It strikes me then, that a canadian
minister/authority could hold marriages on a ship 12 miles off the
US coast to serve GBLT needs around the USA.

As well, a few abortion ships may as well be necessary out past 12
miles so that women can get their civil rights in international
waters.

21. Alas, no
Even if someone gets married in a country that permits same-sex marriages, the US Federal Government will not recognize such.

They won't even recognize such from *states* with same-sex marriage laws.
