Daschle sues Thune in federal court

Senate Democratic leader Tom Daschle sued his opponent, John Thune, and the GOP in federal court tonight, asking a judge to stop what Democrats call intimidation of Native American voters in TuesdayÕs election.

In a complaint filed late this afternoon, Daschle asked U.S. District Court Judge Lawrence Piersol to keep 200 Republican monitors from engaging in a list of activities at polling places across South Dakota, including writing down license plate numbers and taking notes.

ÒThe Daschle-Thune election should be a fair one,Ó the lawsuit reads. ÒThe conduct of Republican Thune supporters will make it an unfair one, unless restrained by this court.
snip----
Daschle charges that GOP poll watchers have been crowding voters in Lake Andes and making notes as they voted, writing down license plate numbers of Native American voters and loudly discussing other Native Americans who have been prosecuted for voter fraud.

6. Judge Orders GOP to Halt Poll Tactics
Edited on Tue Nov-02-04 03:36 AM by Buford Pusser
Republican poll workers in Lake Andes were intimidating Native American voters on Monday, a federal judge ruled early today.

Republicans may not write down license plate numbers or follow Native Americans from polling places during today's election, U.S. District Judge Lawrence Piersol ruled in a temporary restraining order.

The ruling comes after Democratic Sen. Tom Daschle sued his opponent, John Thune, and the GOP in federal court in Sioux Falls on Monday, asking Piersol to stop what Democrats say was intimidation of voters.

"This ruling will hopefully ensure that every legitimate voter can vote free of intimidation on Election Day," said Daschle spokesman Dan Pfeiffer.

7. I'd really love to see someone getting this intimidation filmed
and I'd LOVE to see the clips on national news shows. From your article:
Daschle charges that GOP poll watchers have been crowding voters in Lake Andes and making notes as they voted, writing down license plate numbers of Native American voters and loudly discussing other Native Americans who have been prosecuted for voter fraud.
Why should only a few people without a lot of power have to helplessly take this guff from these creeps?

Why shouldn't the entire world get a chance to evaluate the behavior of these G.O.P. criminals as they try to drive decent people away from their Constitutionally guaranteed right to vote?

While I'm at it, why hasn't any tv show interviewed any of the G.O.P. clots who blocked the vote recount in Miami-Dade in 2000? I'd surely love to see them on national tv, explaining their actions, and telling us how they were entitled to destroy the election.
