GOP outdoorsman campaigns for Kerry

what with the north iowa paper's surprising endorsement for bush, it's bringing out a lot of support for kerry from unexpected corners.

VENTURA — For Tony Dean, protecting the environment is more important than clinging to his staunch Republican roots.

That’s why Dean, the award-winning host and producer of the “Tony Dean Outdoors” TV show, is crossing Iowa this week in support of U.S. Sen. John Kerry, the Democratic presidential candidate.

He spoke Monday to a group of outdoors enthusiasts during a “Sportsmen for Kerry/Edwards” event at the Colony Inn.

“I just believe that it’s very important at this point, that we elect the right man this time around,” said Dean, 63, of Pierre, S.D. “We’ve had 3 1/2 years of conservation mismanagement under the president. I’m not sure that we can handle another four years.
