BBC BREAKING: US-Iraqi troops in new offensive ( South of Baghdad )
US-Iraqi troops in new offensive

More than 3,000 US and Iraqi troops have launched a major offensive on a rebel stronghold south of the capital, Baghdad, the US military says.

More than 30 suspected insurgents were seized in the sweep of Babil region, according to US Central Command.

A press release says the forces also secured a bridge across the Euphrates River used by rebels moving in and out of key Iraqi cities.

No casualties have so far been reported among the assault force.

14. Reminds me of Bob Hope in "Fancy Pants". . .
"There we were; three against a thousand. We fought 'em for seven days and nights as the battle waxed and waned; neither side yielding. We exhausted our ammunition and were too far out to get support, so we fixed bayonets and charged. The fighting that ensued was fierce hand to hand combat but at last we overwhelmed them. Surveying the carnage afterward, we all had to admit: They were the toughest three we ever fought."

5. Fighting "insurgents" is like squeezing a balloon
They simply pop out someplace else. All the while they kill innocent people for no damn reason.

Doomsday is fast approaching the US in Iraq.

Things must be bad if they have to secure bridges at this point in time. Shades of Apocalypse Now.

16. Yeah. More troops lives risked for a dog-and-pony show.
Meanwhile, no actual effect on the insurgency, which keeps
car-bombing away. Oh, I mean "employing vehicle-borne
improvised explosive devices (VBIED)". I dunno how you
get more criminal and negligent than this horseshit.
