Bush Fundraising pitch: He's underdog
Associated Press

President Bush's campaign -- expected to dwarf Democratic hopefuls by raising $200 million or more for the primaries, with no GOP rival -- is appealing for donations by portraying Bush as a fund-raising underdog who won't have enough cash to defend himself against Democratic attacks. ---

Enright (Dean spokeswoman) said it was surprising that "a guy who has portrayed himself as the fund- raising Superman" was now describing himself as an underdog.

Bush campaign spokesman Scott Stanzel defended the letter, saying the campaign expects a close race and "we're raising the resources to pay for grass-roots activities and to get the president's message out."

well, let's just say the stuffed Teddy (Ruckspin) is smarter. Here's more about Underdog for the un-cartooned.

Underdog's main foes included underworld boss Riff Raff, and Simon Bar Sinister, an evil scientist who once created a Big Dipper Machine to steal the world's water supply. He then enslaved the citizens and made them do as "Simon Says" just to get a drink.

Geesh, what a CHARACTER!

11. Knowing that America loves the underdog role
.......Karl Rove will try and brain wash the brain dead into believing that our hero is being attacked and the evil Democrats
are about to take over.....and destruction and ruin is in inevitable if junior is not re-elected.

Only by divine providence can junior overcome these tremendous odds.

God Bless American by a proud American.

2004 Presidential Election

Several Democratic candidates have signed up to challenge President George W. Bush in the 2004 election. By announcing their intentions early (Howard Dean declared his candidacy in May of 2002), each of these candidates was hoping to get a head start on fundraising, a critical element in proving to the press, the public and would-be donors that their campaign is viable.

Early fundraising is particularly important this cycle because of recent campaign finance reforms that ban the national political parties from raising unlimited "soft money" contributions, which they formerly used to aid their nominee's campaign. Although soft money is prohibited, the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act doubled the limits on individual contributions to candidates. For more detail on these changes, view our chart on the new limits.

Presidential candidates: Receipts Spending Cash on Hand
George W. Bush (R) $ 35,109,600**
John Kerry (D) 16,028,266
John Edwards (D) 11,936,277
Howard Dean (D) 10,547,980
Dick Gephardt (D) 9,750,802
Joe Lieberman (D) 8,151,575
Lyndon H. Larouche Jr (D) 4,755,882
Bob Graham (D) 3,136,326
Dennis Kucinich (D) 1,718,354
Carol Moseley Braun (D) 217,109
Al Sharpton (D) 184,415
