Despite Bush Flip-Flops, Kerry Gets Label
Despite Bush Flip-Flops, Kerry Gets Label

By John F. Harris
Washington Post Staff Writer
Thursday, September 23, 2004; Page A01

One of this year's candidates for president, to hear his opposition tell it, has a long history of policy reversals and rhetorical about-faces -- a zigzag trail that proves his willingness to massage positions and even switch sides when politically convenient.

The flip-flopper, Democrats say, is President Bush. Over the past four years, he abandoned positions on issues such as how to regulate air pollution or whether states should be allowed to sanction same-sex marriage. He changed his mind about the merits of creating the Homeland Security Department, and made a major exception to his stance on free trade by agreeing to tariffs on steel. After resisting, the president yielded to pressure in supporting an independent commission to study policy failures preceding the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. Bush did the same with questions about whether he would allow his national security adviser to testify, or whether he would answer commissioners' questions for only an hour, or for as long they needed.

1. CBS addressed this a little tonight
on Rather's newscast...they showed clips of Bush's "different positions" on the war, saying he had plenty of "flip-flops" of his own.

2. Right, but no dems were stupid enough to stand there smirking
saying "flip flop flip flop". If I was around somebody who started in with that shit I would be inclined to beat their fucking brains in.

3. did you see those gag-a-maggot people at RepCon?
they were these old flabby armed old grandma looking ladies and everytime their fuher said something about John Kerry they'd go "Flip-Flop" with their $2 flip-flops they bought at Wal-Mart their favorite store, no doubt... God, I'm sure they thought they were very clever.
All I can say is I already have an ex-pat for a brother in Amsterdam, the whole damn world hates us (Tony Blair is a yes man).I am leaving too if W wins. I can't deal with people who think Camus is a soap...

5. How about getting some Kool-Aid
packets, labeling them "Fool-Aid" and sticking them in their wipers? Should be easy to find plenty of Bush-Cheney stickers in the Wal-Mart parking lots.
