There were a lot of comments on DU during and immediately after the Beslan siege and murders that Chechens had nothing to do with it, that it was all some weird Russian conspiracy, blah blah blah

I thought given the scale of the horror and the sheer repugnance of the attempts to whitewash the killers that it was a good idea to post this for the record.

It being likely that I am one of those you have in mind as you speak this:--I had spoken on what was the most credible information available as things happened, after no shortage of realtime research and background studies. Note also that I had done so without endorsing the whims of genocidal dictators, which cannot be said for everybody in this thread. Early reports are nearly entirely full of shit in the best of times. It is fortunate that Shamil shed such light upon matters and swept aside uncertainty. I would encourage you to read the text in full when it is available, if your interest in such matters is true.

2. Interesting quote from Richard Armitage:
"Anyone who would use (the killing of) innocents for political aims is not worthy of existence in the type of society that we endorse"

Can we hold ya to that, you old heroin smuggler, you?
