WP: Bush Hits Kerry on Iraq and Hussein
By Dana Milbank and Lisa Rein
Saturday, September 11, 2004; Page A01

(snip)

Campaigning with a disaffected Democrat, Sen. Zell Miller (Ga.), at his side, Bush took a bus tour from West Virginia to southern Ohio, raising doubts at every stop about Kerry's ability to protect Americans.

(snip)

Bush and Miller -- who, judging from crowd reactions here, has become the GOP's favorite Democrat -- echoed that theme at each stop Friday, as they rode aboard a bus painted with the words "A Safer World, A More Hopeful America."

"I wish my party had the same will to win this fight that this good president does," Miller said. Bush, his sleeves rolled up on an open-collar blue dress shirt nearly identical to Miller's, threw his arm around the Georgian after Miller introduced him in West Virginia.

Five times in his speech in West Virginia, Bush spoke of making the country and the world "safer." He told members of the audience to bring their friends to the polls and "remind them, if they want a safer America, a stronger America and a better America, put Dick Cheney and me back in there for four more years."

1. Fools
I wouldn't trust Dubya and Cheney to make me safer any further than I could throw those two cowards.

2. Right George, you and that pitiful old man by yourselves. Oh, I forgot
Dick will hit the front lines with you.

The guy is funny. Especially now, with the wheels coming off the trolley.

6. I find it VERY interesting they don't give #s for bush's crowds,
none at all, they refer only to "a crowd". That tells me they are small and sparce.

8. Here is how he should answer -- with a real plan to end the Iraq war.
John Kerry needs to draw on his Vietnam combat experience to formulate a new and bold policy for ending the war in Iraq. Here is what I want him to say.

QUOTE
Fellow citizens, hear me: I served in Vietnam and experienced the combat of war. I saw people killed and I killed enemy soldiers. I learned some things from that experience that will profoundly effect the orders I will issue as Commander and Chief. I will keep our soldiers safe from the folly of war. I will not send them on combat missions with no clear objective. I will not send them into battle where they cannot tell friend from foe. I will not ask them to fight for people who will not fight for themselves. I will never send American soldiers on a combat mission with rules of engagement where they cannot fire unless fired upon. I will never ask young soldiers to risk their lives because old men in high places cannot admit their mistakes.

I will go to Baghdad myself and I will meet with the leaders of the Iraqi insurgency. I will end this war on Iraq. I will not fire another shot in that war. I will hold an immediate national referendum in Iraq to determine if the Iraqi people want us to stay. If the people of Iraq want us out of there, I will bring the troops home. If a clear majority of Iraqis want us to stay, I will demand they stand along side American troops and prove it. If they refuse or shirk that duty, I will still bring our troops home. If they want us to stay and will stand with us, I will keep American forces there as true peace keepers.

I believe that God helps those who help themselves, and so do I. That principle will guide my policy in Iraq. Please give me your vote and your confidence. Please trust that what I learned in the rice fields of South Vietnam is relevant to what must be done now. I ask for your trust. Quote

Fellow DU bloggers. Will this message resonate??

9. I like it but,
I don't think he should meet with the insurgency leaders. They might blow him up.

10. It is NOT a safer world
How is the media letting him get away with this rubbish? Every expert around says the opposite, and yet the media keeps reporting Bush's stupidity as if it were true. I want to scream!!!

11. When is Bush?
going to get the lead and choke chain out for Miller, and have him get down on all fours, and bite somebody? This is getting surreal.

14. You're right, mostly. Kerry is a disappointment in many ways. He
certainly wasn't my first choice, and if he is half as bad as I fear he might be, I will work to make him a one term president too.

But I'm voting for him anyway. He can't be too bad, he deserves a chance. He might be okay. He's actually better qualifed than a lot of guys who walked in that door. And he is the best we've got. He is our guy. He is the alternative to the Boy Emperor. I'm not voting for Caligula in Training Pants, the Prince of Abu Ghraib.

George Bush is the least Christian man to ever serve in the Oval Office and possibly the worst president to ever serve. I cannot and will not vote for him.

16. I believe a bush presidency,
practically guarantees a war with Iran, which was a mild enemy before the invasion. John Kerry hopefully won't add another unnecessary war to the one we got, though I must admit that isn't a given. Bush is an anti-federalist more than a republican. I believe he is pushing the deficit high to create an economic meltdown, which will create chaos and place our country towards the ultimate privatization :feudalism. John Kerry, whatever his faults ,doesn't believe God appointed him to lead us, so he doesn't have the messianic complex the Crawford extremist has. The Bush presidency is a pilot who will eventually crash the plane with us in it. These things alone will make me vote democrat this fall.

17. No joke, more war. Kerry need only mention we put Saddam where he is
Halliburton is trading with Iran and therefore funding terrorism. Also with Iran they have the sticky problem of Kerry being the man that brought them too their knees in the 1980's. I think that Kerry will be just fine.

18. What is Kerry offering?
You've not been paying attention.

Here's what John Kerry is offering:

Jobs that don't require a hair net.
Affordable healthcare.
Rolling back the shameful Bush tax cuts for the rich.
Middle-class tax relief.
A healthy environment.
An end to outsourcing.
A road to energy independence.
Respect for our allies.
A multilateral (read EFFECTIVE) approach to the war on terror.
College tuition tax credits.

That's just off the top of my head.
