Republican leaders say Jewish voters could be key to Florida

NEW YORK (AP) — Grabbing at every vote they can to win another tight race in Florida, Republicans believe they can gain ground in a historically Democratic demographic: Jewish voters.

Even a small slice of Florida's 500,000 Jewish voters could make the difference for President Bush. With Sen. Joe Lieberman off the presidential ticket and Bush showing support of Israel, Republicans think they have a good chance.

"Clearly the Jewish vote will be more favorable to our side this time. The only question is by how much. We deserve 90% but we'll settle for a third of the vote, and if we get a third, Florida won't be a close election," said delegate Sid Dinerstein of Palm Beach.

1. Bush is not going to get the Jewish vote
The Jewish vote is not going to go to Bush in any meaningful numbers. Bush and Rove have worked hard to get the Jewish vote but have not succeeded to any large degree.

Jewish Voters Favor Kerry, as Do Arab-Americans, Polls Show

snippets:

Despite Bush's reputation as what one Republican called "the best
friend that Israel has ever had in the White House," the president's
full-term effort to court Jewish Americans has failed, according to a
new poll that shows him trailing Sen. John Kerry.

"The work the Bush administration has done over the last three years
to reach out to Jewish voters has been largely unsuccessful," said
pollster Anna Greenberg, who conducted the poll for the National
Jewish Democratic Council (NJDC).

This could set up an ironic double win, because polls show Kerry
leading among Arab-Americans as well, a switch from their overwhelming
support for Bush four years ago.

"The anger among Arab-Americans toward Bush is palpable," pollster
John Zogby said recently after conducting a poll in Dearborn,
Michigan, home to one of the largest Arab-American communities in the
United States.

5. I think the key to understanding Florida is to understand there is no key
It's too unpredictable. It has a history (which pre-dates election 2000) of political "irregularity." And finally, didn't Lieberman say exactly this in 2000?

8. Rumor.
I hear the RNC is encouraging people to absentee vote to be able to buy ballots and cast them for * and/or alter/loose those cast for Kerry. Election theft Rove style since they absolutely can't allow Kerry to win.
