GOP activist Schlafly wins platform fight

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

NEW YORK -- Conservative activist Phyllis Schlafly has helped win yet another Republican platform opposed to abortion, but the GOP's internal debate over the issue hasn't ended.

The 80-year-old activist, author and Missouri delegate has been to every Republican convention since 1952, including 11 times as a delegate or alternate. Her mission is to produce a socially conservative platform.

"We had a total victory," Schlafly, of suburban St. Louis, declared after Republicans adopted a 2004 platform again opposed to abortion.

On Wednesday, Schlafly intends to celebrate - and honor eight "pro-life" legislators - during her "The Life of the Party" party. The $125-a-ticket event at an upscale dining spot near Central Park is expected to draw 550 people, which Schlafly said would demonstrate that conservative strength is undiminished.

1. Undiminshed, perhaps. But that doesn't mean we aren't stronger.

LOL 550? Considering that the march on Sunday drew about 1000 times as many, I'd start to be very, very nervous if I were her.

8. Amen!
"Proof that only the good die young." Amen! Lindacooks

Phyllis is the same dirty bleep bleep bleep that whines against ERA her argument against the ERA was if it passed women would be drafted. Never mind the fact that women have volunteered and served for years have died and they still have no ERA.
So, I ask you how many women will die in USA wars before they are recognized in the constitution as equal? Who will be the last woman to die? Who will she be? Will she be a woman that has died in the Iraq Invasion and Occupation or how about Iran? Who will be the last woman to die before ERA is passed?
How many more hundreds of years as my African American brother and sisters understand and died for their civil rights. African Americans fought in every war from the Revolution to the Vietnam War before Civil Rights passed!

Phyllis your victory is shallow and you will not live to see the day where abortions are not available to women but we also know what kind of woman you are rich women will always have access to abortion! We know your kind and hypocrisy is your name not one child have you probably ever helped it's all about that thin dime and controlling of a womans body. One last thing that's an FDR dime Phyllis and it will never carry your boy Raygun upon it!

9. Why haven't the Republicans defeated Roe v Wade?
Conservative Republicans control the White House, the Supreme Court, and both Houses of Congress. What's the hold up on Roe v Wade?

Could it be that defeating Roe v Wade would take away the Republican's most effective wedge issue?
