Hundreds of Kerry yard signs vandalized in Fla.
By BETH FOUHY, ASSOCIATED PRESS

Hundreds of yard signs supporting Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry have been stolen and vandalized in Pensacola, Fla., a heavily Republican region known as "Bush Country," prompting some Kerry supporters to hang signs from trees to deter burglars.

About 350 signs have been stolen, according to Panhandle for Kerry organizers, who met with Pensacola police Monday. The group has distributed nearly 3,400 signs.

Police said they would increase patrols, and Kerry supporters planned to conduct neighborhood watches, said the group's chairman, Jerry Holt.

"We have the availability, the funds and the will to replace every sign when we find out it's missing," Holt said.

Pensacola resident Anne Bennett lost four Kerry signs from her front yard before putting out a homemade sign that read, "Nice people don't steal or vandalize." She hung her latest sign from a tree limb 15 feet in the air. ..

of repercussion for a Kerry sign stealer. Just get some poison ivy leaves with gloves on and rub them all around the edges and plant the sign in your yard and violoa!

I think you've hit on something! Amazing what you find out on du!}(

Their Masters have not yet instructed them to go full-on KKK, Soviet, or Nazi.

However, I believe it is inevitable once they have taken the Goebbels v2.0 path.

Be ready when they are instructed to go after the "Enemies of the State" because they will do so with the unquestioning enthusiasm of Nazis.

a ripped off sign today; a bullet through the window tomorrow.

Yeah, you're going to have this kind of stuff happen with any election, but this year such pranks (to me) have the feel of direct threats that are only going to get worse. You know where I'm feeling most vulnerable right now? My church parking lot. Already I've had something left under my windshield and the church has had an anonymous call from someone who says is "out to get" any Kerry cars he sees there.

God Bless America.

Used to live there & my parents still do. Pensacola makes the news for three things, generally speaking--whacko abortion doctor shooters, serial killer apprehensions, and this crap.

Someday they'll hit the trifecta with a story about a serial abortion doctor killer who's apprehended while vandalizing Kerry/Edwards signs.

On our department we use this paste on fire boxes to deter false alarms. For good measure we mix in dog poop from Dakota our arson dog. Under a black light it glows in the dark, plus Dakota makes a bee line for the scent of his own poop. We enjoy telling the kids what's mixed with the paste.

41. 2 letters, 2 numbers
WD40. First, it's clear and doesn't really dry. Second, anyone that touches it gets that slimy oil on their hands, which gets on their clothes and everything else they touch. Third, smelly grease is in the trunk or SUV hatch where the signs are tossed (if stolen)...a smell you just can't really get out. Fourth, idiots know they're busted. Lastly, it's cheap, a convenient application, and you probably have it in your garage already.

Also, the paintball idea? Put 'em in the fridge. Hurts more, still marks well, but the paint is slower to run. Aim is affected though, as they wobble.

Would really like some more sensible ideas on how to keep my yard sign from being stolen...something that doesn't involve me staying up all night watching my front yard with a paintball gun in my hands. I like the WD40 idea, are there any others that don't cost alot of $$$ ? Something I can buy in the local hardware store...am an old, defenseless, helpless woman, so don't get complicated on me.

69. Just a piece of factual information:
Oils and grease spread hot/acid things much better than the hot/acid things alone. I'd think a paste of Crisco and habaneros or jalapenos (or even just the concentrated cayenne you can get at some cooking supply stores, reputedly) would really make for some serious hurt -- especially since if you rub your eyes or nose, the hot grease would get and be a real pain to get out.

That's the reason poison ivy and poison oak are tough -- the plants carry the irritating substance in volatile oils, which spread quickly and soak into the skin.

finger prints in the 1/2 inch layer of crisco I slathered on a pole...it is priceless.

If anything it would be almost better to frame the Kerry sign in a form so that you won't get the crisco on the sign...I am not sure if the ink would tolerate all that oil....so I would recommend tests.

At the time I did it my daughter was in diapers and I seriously contemplated mixing diaper doo with crisco for a double whammy.

71. Rubber-base ink
Rubber-base ink needs to be in a layer just a couple of microns thick--the thickness of the ink film on the printed piece--before it will dry. It will stay open on the press forever, which is why old pressmen loved it; you could ink the press up on Monday, clean it out on Friday and the ink would be as fresh as the day you put it in.

Anyway, most modern printers hate this shit because it takes half of forever to cure once it's been printed, but everyone has a can of it in the back room they can't bear to throw away and can't bear to use.

This is your golden opportunity: Get a can of rubber-based ink, and a trowel. (Yes, this ink is really that thick.) Trowel a nice heavy stripe of ink along both vertical edges of the back of the sign, then put it up.

When the Repug tries to tear down your sign, he will put his fingers in the stripes of ink. The next thing he will do is wipe his hands on his pants. Now his hands and the seat of his pants are both black...he will then get in his car and destroy his seats too.
