Al Franken radio show to be on cable TV

By FRAZIER MOORE

NEW YORK -- Satirist-commentator Al Franken will return to his TV roots next month when his radio show begins appearing on cable's Sundance Channel.

Beginning Sept. 7, "The Al Franken Show," heard live each weekday from noon to 3 p.m. Eastern on Air America Radio, will go on display in a one-hour edition on Sundance each night at 11:30 p.m. and 2:30 a.m., executives at both networks told The Associated Press on Monday.

The "Franken" TV hour is currently scheduled through the November election, but all parties voiced hope the show would continue on Sundance indefinitely.

"It would be nice if it were a permanent home," Franken said.

2. He just mentioned this on his show
It's a good way to get more exposure for AAR, I just wonder how many people get Sundance on their cable line-up. As for me I think so but I'll have to check

6. No, its been around for a while
I think Robert Redford had his hand in it somehow. It shows many independent films along the lines of IFC

13. It's often buried
Mine is next to IFC on my cable system, channel 438 or something.

Dig into the listings, or call your cable company if it's not there.

16. How to find Sundance Channel
1. Check your cable operator's website.

2. Here's the Sundance FAQ:

http://www.sundancechannel.com/feedback/#FAQ3

How do I get Sundance Channel?
Sundance Channel is available via satellite television and cable television. To find out if your provider offers Sundance Channel, call:
(800) SUN-FILM
(800) 786-3456
If your preferred provider does offer Sundance Channel, you'll be transferred directly to your local cable or satellite representative who will take your order. If your preferred provider doesn't offer Sundance Channel, we'd appreciate you telling your customer service representative you want it right away.

5. Well isn't that just dandy
They're going to air him at 11:30pm and 2:30am on some channel that most people don't get. I'm sure that vast numbers of people will sit up breathlessly at those hours waiting for Al's words of wisdom.

A rerun of a radio show to which anyone watching has no ability to even call in. Boy, we've really got the repugs on the run now.

Sigh, I guess it's better than nothing, but wtf.

11. Ahh, cynism...
I hate to say it, but, I agree with you. It's like cable access on Channel 12. I don't really get "watching" a radio show, especially one that is about 9 hours old. But, whatever, if it gets out there, good for them.

I still do question the viability of all of Air America. Franken can carry his slot well, but, how is everyone else doing? Anyone have the Arbitron ratings?

8. Thanks. Sundance is 549 on DirectTV.
I'll have to upgrade out of the basic package, but this makes it worth it.

9. This has to be driving Rush insane
and I'm loving that fact. :D

Then again, he'll probably just write it off as the "Liberal" Robert Redford and his "Liberal" Sundance channel hosting the "Liberal" Al Franken's "Liberal" radio show.

15. Remember, Rush failed on television
And he had a pretty strong backer in Roger Ailes, who struck paydirt when he took over FOX News.

17. That's right after The Daily Show! Me like.
It's nice to see the occasional liberal getting airtime on the SCLM lately, even if it is on channel 506.

Double check the different packages, cos they do carry them in my area -- albeit on digital cable only.
