Two Kurdish rebels killed in southeast Turkey
DIYARBAKIR, Turkey — Turkish forces have killed two Kurdish rebels near the border with Iraq, security officials said on Saturday, in a sign some militants are ignoring an amnesty offer made by Ankara nearly two weeks ago.

No Turkish soldiers were reported killed or wounded in the clash on Friday in open fields near the southeastern city of Mardin, about 100 km (60 miles) from Iraq.

Turkey enacted the amnesty to encourage rebels to surrender arms and end an armed campaign for a Kurdish homeland in which more than 30,000 people have been killed since it began in 1984.
