BUFFALO, N.Y. -- A plane was turned around on the runway and returned to the gate after three men were overheard praying and discussing the Sept. 11 terror attacks.

The men -- two ministers from Toronto and one of their cousins from the United States -- were on a Continental flight Wednesday headed to Newark, N.J.

The pilot taxied back to Buffalo-Niagara International Airport, where members of the joint terrorism task force in Buffalo interviewed the men and fellow passengers.

The ministers were identified as the Rev. Komal Singh and the Rev. Yohan Heenatigala. The third man was not identified.

Singh was on his way to an evangelical crusade in Baltimore when he told another passenger that the passenger's last breath on Earth would be his first breath in heaven if he became a born-again Christian.

5. You're not the only one showing your prejudices
It seems that as soon as the airlines found out they were fundie xians, everything was okay again. I think it would have been another matter entirely if they had been Muslim.

8. Asscrack would have been all over the tube
announcing that they had broken up another terrorist cell. Then they would have been shipped off to Gitmo, never to be seen again.

12. Make that hand cuffed like animals...
...and with a billy club stuck up their rear ends. The media would have described the scene as a case of "possible abuse".

4. You don't talk about 9-11 on an airplane
You just don't. That's just sheer idiocy.

19. Why not?
If I were on an airplane, I would be thinking about 9-11 and talking about it might help ease the pain.

Words are not dangerous! No one should be arrested for the subject of their conversation. That is going too far.

If the airlines are going to consider talk about 9-11 on aircraft to be enough to stop the flight and question those participating in the conversation, they should make it clear to passengers. It does not logically follow any discussion of 9-11 on an airplane would be taken as a threat.

16. what happened to that program...
where they were going to enlist letter carriers as informants?

I forgot what it was called. They were going to also use utility workers, and other people with access to people's houses.

I assume it was killed, or did it just go underground?

I tell them I don't discuss these matters. This shuts them up.

14. So what's the angel food cake myth ?
I haven't heard that one. Is there a devil's food cake myth too?

I see you live in the Texas oasis, Austin. I almost made a trip to Padre Island last month to fish for reds. But I was deterred by the $2.25 per gallon gas prices. It would have cost me $1500 just for gas round trip from Seattle area (in my RV).

But if did the trip and I knew you were there in Austin I would'a stopped by and picked a few toons with you on the way.

17. Angel food cake.
I got this from a Lutheren minister who had issues with being asked to elaborate on rewards in heaven more than he liked to. It goes something like if you are good in this world, then salvation, heaven, all the goodies are in store - to the point of distraction.

Who knows if it is a myth or not? But being asked to provide sublime reassurances of nebulous things to come kind of gets in the way of havine a spiritual experience of living. And its a moot point if any of this stuff is real or not.

There is a real demand for this stuff, based on fear , I suppose.
When I traveled in Egypt a few years ago, I was profoundly intreagued by the ethos of the pantheistic religion of ancient Egypt. So much in the way of resources, time and thought was directed at a form of After Life Insurance.

He with the biggest pyramid wins.

So... yeah you would have liked the Luguna Madre allot. Its a pretty wonderful and remote place out near the passes by Port Isabel.
Agreed, hard to get to , but as an experience, probably worth it. I think ot that 143 mile long bay as a kind of natural wonder.

I have taken up mandolin lately, shifting away from guitar. I would be happy to play with you if you are in the neighborhood ! Yes, its still kind of an oasis but .... things change. I liked it more here 20 years ago.

. . promised to those who get shit on a lot in this one, whatever religion.

I mostly do banjo (clawhammer) but lately I've really been picking guitar a lot - and liking it. All those strings to play with.

I'll put you on my travel early warning list.

B-)
