Female trucker stalked Sills

Beverly Sills is living a real-life opera.
A female truck driver from Detroit has been busted and charged with stalking the 74-year-old diva and telling her in letters and phone calls that she wants to marry her.

Victoria Glover, 39, was arrested at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday after she showed up at the stage door of the Metropolitan Opera house at Lincoln Center to ask Sills to be her bride.
Cops said Glover has been stalking Sills, who is married and has two grown children, since November, when she began calling the soprano's office at the Met.

"Sills is aware of the defendant's efforts to contact her . . . and has experienced fear for her physical safety as a result," NYPD Detective Carl Roadarmel wrote in a report.
Glover was arraigned yesterday in Manhattan Criminal Court on charges of aggravated harassment, harassment and stalking. She was ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation and was being held without bail last night.

Glover's grandmother, Marie Glover, said she was shocked by the charges. She said her granddaughter loves opera and has some of Sills' records. "She didn't go there to harm the lady," the grandmother, who lives in Detroit, told the Daily News.

3. Opera fans are the most bizarre kind
I am one, so I speak from personal knowledge. I work at Lincoln Center and stopped Sills a few times to say hello right where this woman was arrested. Beverly's the kindest woman. But now I'm afraid to do it again.

What made this 39 yo. think that a straight and married 74 yo. would become her bride? But again, if Bush convinced 50 million to vote for him, everything else is possible.

8. I know an opera singer who scared off a mugger.
Edited on Fri May-21-04 02:00 PM by Paranoid_Portlander
And I think you all can guess how she did it. It's a true story. She demonstrated on local TV how she sang one of her favorite operatic selections, and had the mugger begging for mercy. She was also my former employer many years ago. She had me begging for mercy on a few occasions.
