Bush Assures Americans Iraq Sovereignty Near
Bush Assures Americans Iraq Sovereignty Near
By David Morgan

BRIDGETON, Mo. (Reuters) - President Bush assured Americans on Friday he will stick to a June 30 date for handing over power to Iraqis and encouraged allied nations to put past Iraq differences behind them.

With an entrenched insurgency in Iraq and a prisoner abuse scandal in the headlines, support for Bush's handling of the war and its aftermath has been on the decline.

Some of the president's Republican allies are starting to fret about the impact troubles in Iraq could have on Bush's re-election chances in November.

However, at a fund-raiser in the election battleground state of Missouri, Bush suggested the hand-over date might provide some hope for the Iraqi people.

"They're glad to be rid of Saddam," Bush said. "And they obviously want to run their own country. If I were them I'd want to run my own country too."

"That's why the June 30 transfer date is a solemn date," he said. "We'll help the Iraqis of course."

1. Oh, PLEASE!
George W. bu$h, do you ever stop--even for a minute--to wonder how so much bullshit can possibly fall through your lizard lips in one day's time?

"If I were them I'd want to run my own country too." Good thing you had Daddy to steal one for you, wasn't it?

You.
Worthless.
Little.
Shit.

5. And we're handing over "sovereignty" to . . . ?
Did he mention that? Is it a secret? Does anyone know the answer? How close to the "solemn date" will we get before we find out?

What was it we're handing over, again?

13. I guess they better get moving, since it's only six weeks away.

I'm concerned that the Administration's real objective will be to find a bunch of malleable suck-ups. If so, then, based on the ham-handed bone-headed way everything else has been done, the interim government will have zero credibility with the Iraqis, which will only make the situation worse.

6. Starting to sound more and more like a cut and run strategery...
A "declare victory and come home" situation.

Can the Iraq's new government sue for reparations once it kicks the "coalition" out?

Something tells me, American taxpayers are going to be paying for this war for a long, long time.

11. oh, here it is : Deadline Looms
By JIM KRANE, Associated Press Writer

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Just six weeks from the Bush administration's deadline to hand power to a nominally sovereign Iraqi government, the shape of that government is far from clear, with bitter infighting over its membership and powers.

Members of the U.S.-picked Iraqi Governing Council are clamoring to stay in power after their mandate expires. Other leaders are calling for a functioning parliament. Some want to quash influence of former members of Saddam Hussein (news - web sites)'s regime. Still others are calling for open discussions in a nationwide congress.

~~snip~

As a United Nations (news - web sites) team readies for Monday's start of negotiations with Iraq (news - web sites)'s Governing Council, there appears to be agreement on little more than the structure of the government's executive branch: A prime minister will be the chief executive, assisted by a president and two vice presidents.

A list of candidates has emerged for those posts, which will oversee Iraq for a maximum of seven months, until elections slated for January.

The rest is still up in the air.

12. "There are no plans for war with Iraq on my desk"
Edited on Fri May-14-04 05:53 PM by Mountainman
And there are no plans for post 6-30-04 Iraq either. Hell there aren't any plans for anything. There never where. Who needs plans? Who cares what you think!
