Ted Nugent, Bryan Ferry, and Phil Collins seem to be much the same way, if the hundreds of second-hand reports are true.

The golden lining to this cloud is that nobody really pays attention to their opinions when they spout off like this. With Simmons' latest jeremiad against the Arabs, he may get a little more attention, but people will say, "Oh, he's a Madman Of Rock And Roll™, and besides, he's Israeli, and they're touchy about that anyway."

Simmons is the entertainment. If it gives you a laugh to watch a grown man soil himself in public (or do the equivalent in rhetoric), so much the better.

We put so much stock in entertainers' political opinions. But very few of them undertake political activity the way that Charleton Heston, Fred Thompson, Al Franken and Janeane Garofalo have done.

I cut them all some slack for a simple reason -- the real reprobates stole their way into the White House in late 2000. Gene Simmons may be an egomaniac who fucked 5000 women and hates Arabs, but he never went on national TV, lied to the world, and committed hundreds of thousands of untrained kids to fight his Crusade, which he launched on orders from Jesus.

Iraq under Hussein was actually the exception here -- they treated women better than in the surrounding countries.

I have an ex-girlfriend and a 3 yr old son in Almaty Kazakhstan.
That ex-communist country is a mix of Russian, Western, and Middle Eastern cultures. Some people are former communist athiests, some are Christian, some are Islamic. You can see the cultures side by side. The Russian culture was best for women -- pure equality, equal rights, abortion on demand, free day care and maternity leave, etc. Western (European) culture is second. Islamic culture there is crazy -- they don't even want women to show their knees, literally, my ex lives in fear that some crazy Islamic nut will attack her for showing her knees. You can literally see that they treat women the worst. Ask any woman who has lived in the middle east and they will say the same thing.

I'm also Jewish with lots of friends and family from the middle east -- in Israel women serve in the army, they have equal rights, they have education, they serve in politics, etc -- is that true for all the surrounding countries? Don't you think religion is a factor?

Can you name three Western (Christian) nations where women are treated worse than in Afganistan, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait? Go ahead, name them! Go to the web sites for women rights and see which countries are worst.

Your problem is that you are using reverse logic: "We (USA) are bad, so they Islamic people must be good" Believe me, I agree with the first part, but that doesn't make the second part true.

The attack on Arab and Islamic folks following 9-11 (e.g. forced registrations, vilification, Iraq war, racial profiling, prison abuses) is kinda what happened to Blacks and Latinos after the L.A. 1992 riots (Bell Curve, OJ Trial, Dinesh D'Souza, Prop 187 against immigrants, Prop 209 banning Affirmative Action).

After the L.A. riots there was a lot of pseudo-scientist claiming that Black and Latino culture was inferior to whites and the source of racism in America: D'Souza's "The End of Racism". D'Souza is now at Stanford's Hoover Institution churninng out pro-empire 'scholarship' that makes Gene Simmons look leftist.

Then the authors of the "Bell Curve" (1994) resurrected the claimed that blacks and latinos are genetically inferior to whites and Asians. Aside from questionable statistical techniques, the Genomic research has all but invalidate this notion.

The sad thing is that all of this racial commotion did nothing to resovle racial tensions or bring about racial understanding.

Its was done for hate.

That's what is happening to Arab and Islamic peoples today.
