Blood will flow after Chechen blast: Putin | SMH
Blood will flow after Chechen blast: Putin

By Nick Paton Walsh in Moscow and Jonathan Steele in London
May 11, 2004

Russia's President Vladimir Putin has moved to fill the power vacuum left by Akhmad Kadyrov's assassination in Chechnya and vowed that retribution will be "unavoidable".

Mr Putin looked unsettled after the most brazen assault yet on his proteges in Grozny, which reduced a victory day parade to carnage in the Chechen capital.

At least six people are reported to have died in the blast that killed Mr Kadyrov in a stadium during a ceremony to commemorate victory over Nazi Germany.

Mr Putin appeared on TV next to Mr Kadyrov's son Ramzan, a militia leader, but did not give much away. The killers of the Chechen President would meet justice, he said. Sunday's assassination would not stop Chechnya "returning to normal".

1. When has blood not flowed in the vicious occupation of Chechnya? (n/t)

2. Of course, Vlad, it's worked so well in the past
Everyone knows how chilled out the Chechen terrorists have been ever since the leveling of Grozny.

No wonder Bush could "see his soul"!

3. he's always making Chechen blood flow
and his people are always alternately declaring victory or revenge. I can only imagine how hollow that would sound to the Russian people by now, if not for the Putin loyalists that basically run the media (sound familiar).

Ramzan, in many ways worse than his father, will probably be next. He barely survived a resistance attack on him just a couple weeks ago. At first he was reported dead from it, but like most Chechen leaders he has to be reported dead 40-50 times before it actually is his end (even if he's a traitor and collaborator, he still has that quality to him in his blood).

4. Putin had better watch out.
Occupation is a dangerous game.
