Nairobi - Kenyan officials have confiscated the passports of three British immigration officers after a deported woman they were escorting to Nairobi claimed on arrival to have been tortured, the British embassy spokesperson said on Thursday.
"We expect and insist on them (the British officers) being able to leave tonight, otherwise we are into realms of unlawful detention," high commission (embassy) press officer Mark Norton said.
"They have not been charged with anything... they are not free to leave... (so it's a) de facto detention," he added.
The woman, Benice Wairimu Kamau, with both arms in slings, told local television news programmes at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, when she arrived with her young daughter on Tuesday, that she had been "tortured" during the deportation process.
