BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Three U.S. soldiers were killed in the Iraqi town of Diwaniya during clashes with the militia loyal to wanted Shi'ite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr, the U.S. military said in a statement Wednesday.

It said the U.S. troops were attacking two buildings in the town south of Baghdad used by Sadr's Mehdi Army to assault U.S. forces Tuesday when the soldiers were killed.

4. ChimPEE will not take this provocation lightly
He will Smite the Infidels a mighty blow in retaliation. Not him, actually, he would never get his shoes dirty in a fight. But he will be only too happy to order our young men and women Onward as Christian Soldiers to flay the Evil Doers with Passion.

God save us all.

6. Sadr is laying low for now... I wonder what will be next.
The Sadrists are reined in as of now. But I don't think that the occupation can "govern" if he truly goes underground and into armed struggle. His death at the hands of the US would spawn certain events. Someone yesterday said that it's just like Vietnam. I don't think so. Perhaps like Vietnam but well before '68 or so. But the groundwork for nationalist insurgency is being well-laid by the bumbling governor general and his puppets.

7. I wonder: Do we ONLY get reports when soldiers are killed?
I mean, is that like a Pentagon rule that only those attacks which actually involve a death can be issued and all other attacks which involve injury are to be shuffled away from the public?

8. I'm having a hard time wrapping my mind around the number
I think this makes 764? american dead overall, but I keep seeing 470 when I read the numbers.
Selective dylexia, that and there hasn't been a larger outcry about this, about why we're there in the first place, about all the wounded, about the rape of a sovereign country, about the way our standing in the world has plummeted.
On top of everything else the fool* wants another 25 billion, needs more but he'll take what is in petty cash.

10. Well, apparently, the DoD manipulates even the number of dead,...
,...because multiple sources seem to indicate that it has a policy of excluding those who die on their way to a hospital.

Why is that legal? I mean, how can manipulating numbers like that be legal? That just seems so wrong.

in 5 days. It's f*cking sickening. How many of these soldiers signed on because it would be the only way they could go to college and maybe break the cycle of poverty?
