Jordanian lawyer wants to defend Saddam Hussein
Amman, Jordan - A Jordanian lawyer says Saddam Hussein's wife has appointed him to defend the ousted Iraqi leader.

Mohammad Rashdan tells The Associated Press that days after Saddam's capture on December 13th, Saddam's wife asked him to represent Saddam in court when his trial opens. So far no date has been set to try Saddam and charges have not yet been determined.

Rashdan says his request to American officials to meet Saddam have so far gone unanswered. Officials in Iraq's U-S-appointed interim administration say no defense lawyer has yet been appointed to represent Saddam.
