Barack Obama in weekly address: Congress needs to 'step on the gas'

With the unemployment rate falling to its lowest level in more than two years, Congress needs to “step on the gas, not slam on the brakes” and pass a proposed payroll tax cut, President Barack Obama said in his weekly radio address broadcast Saturday.

Passing the tax cut would help the economy to grow, give middle-class Americans a $1,500 annual boost and allow small businesses to hire more employees, Obama said.

“We need to keep this growth going and strengthen it,” Obama said. “That’s why we’ve been fighting to pass a series of jobs bills through Congress - bills that independent economists say will create more jobs and grow the economy faster.”

2. Decoding "don't share the same sense of urgency"
In other words, Republicans want to make sure the economy sucks so they can label Obama a failure in
order to get America to vote for some completely incompetent candidate they will foist upon us. If the
economy improves, then their arguments fall kinda flat. Well, their arguments fall flat anyway, IF you
have a brain, but after a few years of watching only Fox, a significant portion of America can be legitimately
seen as not playing with a full deck upstairs, politically.
