Recall Walker Drive Surpassed Halfway Petition Signature Total
Source: Hispanic News Network

United Wisconsin and the Recall Walker Committee effort to oust
Wisconsin Republican Governor Scott Walker
projecting that more than 270,000 signatures
have been collected, passing the halfway mark.

By H. Nelson Goodson
November 26, 2011

Milwaukee – On Saturday, Recall Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker (R) projections to collect petition signatures have surpassed all expectations to get more than the minimum required signatures per day needed by organizers to meet the amount of 540,000 mark by January 17. After the Black Friday signature petition drive throughout the state, recall organizers projected that most likely they have surpassed the halfway mark of the 270,000 signatures needed or will reach the halfway target total within days to force an election recall against Governor Walker.

Within the first week of the Walker recall, organizers and volunteers collected at least 105,000 to 107,000 petition signatures within four days of the initial start date (Nov. 15), exceeding all expectations.

The Committee to Recall Scott Walker and United Wisconsin were expected to collect the 9,000 minimum per day for 60 days, but have collected threefold of signatures per day and continue to gather the needed signatures to force a recall election.

The half-way mark in only two weeks!

Hey- it's a start.

Let's shoot for 700,000 by Christmas. Ho-ho-ho.

1. It's a very promising start!
They are truly pissed off at Walker.

Their anger is fueling this recall.

Republicans and self-proclaimed Democrats need to understand that attacking unions leads to awful pain. Unions are our best defense, by far, against the 1%.

I hope he gets his ass handed to him, after his little friends the koch brothers squander a whole boatload of money trying to save him. They'll probably endow some distinguished chair or appointment for him at the American Enterprise Institute or Heritage Foundation. They'll keep him propped up even after he's driven from office, I'm sure. He just may not be able to run for office again. And of course, there goes that star-making invitation to give the keynote speech at the republi-CON convention next year. But he'll go from hero to goat with many of them. He's made them look bad, and therefore set back their forward march toward true tyranny.

At least I hope that's how it turns out. It's what he and all those knuckle-dragger CONservative asshole governors like rick scott and kasich and the Maine guy and the Michigan guy and the rest of them deserve. A public humiliation, while they're run out of the statehouse on a rail.

Edited on Sun Nov-27-11 10:29 AM by TBF
it was very common in Wisconsin. There were still bunches of little factories scattered around in the small towns (and in Milwaukee for that matter, and the paper companies ...)

It is really too bad so many of them packed up and headed south, it provided good jobs for many high school grads. Everyone I knew owned their own house and bought new cars every few years (the winter is harsh on vehicles). It wasn't a life of luxury by any means, but we had everything we needed. Contrast that with today for many folks ...

and that means not only the recall certifying enough signatures, but Scott Walker actually leaving office.

ANYTHING less is failure. No symbolic "gosh we tried so hard and feel good about ourselves" non-victories.

we are working so hard to get as many sigs as possible, register as many people to vote as possible, and then get them to go vote when the recall happens. They will stop at nothing. I hope there are people to watch Waukesha County. There are also three Senate districts recalling Repub Senators that have stood with Walker. I'm eager for news about how those are going. They are far from us in our part of the state so we don't seem to hear much about it.

You can read more details at the link below. As much as Walker and his Teabagger friends like to complain about regulations, they are all for regulations that protect their corporate donors from competition by the little guy:

37. The work has actually just begun. Many of those who've signed are not registered
voters. They will have to be registered. Each sig will have to be independently verified perhaps by the League of Women's Voters. Someone has to run against Walker-->yet to be announced. That campaign will be dirty and Repugs are preparing for it.
Indeed much work is ahead of us.

40. Verification won't be much of an issue
The democrats are already fired up to crush the repubs for destroying the economy during the bush/cheney regime, and doing nothing but obstructing Obama the past 3 years.

So when Walker decided to really screw the Wisconsin working men and women with Koch brothers methodology, they have impressively rallied together to get rid of that scum bucket. The democrats will have all the T's crossed and I's dotted on this recall.

49. Democratic Party of Wisconsin (DPW) is verifying as we go....
... and "rehabbing" signatures as appropriate. Under State law, the circulator can add or correct any piece of information on the petition except the signature itself.

Getting People registered / ID is going to be an even greater challenge than collecting the signatures, and DPW local offices appear to vary greatly in how well organized and staffed they are.

We'll need all hands on deck and a full-blown effort to get People registered and proper ID.

because Republicans are going to challenge thousands and thousands of them whether they are legitimate or not. We're doing well in the first step, but this is going to be a long and hard battle.

I sure wish we had a candidate though. There will be a Democratic primary in the recall as the Republicans are sure to run their fake Democrats to delay the final vote for as long as possible.

As for a Democratic candidate, we really need Russ Feingold to run! It would be a perfect prelude for him to be able to run for president in 2016 by giving 5 years to Wisconsin first to help rebuild it from the mess that this Walker bastard has created.

Russ, listen to your consituents!

57. Causes are many and you've hit on a few.
One of the biggest is Koch-style buying of politicians and political seats.

They lied. Walker lied. The other Republican pig-f***ers lied. Ron Johnson lied. All the while they drowned out the rational voices in the media with their lying ads.

Voter apathy followed - not as a cause but as a symptom of unlimited, unregulated money in politics.

As this OP shows, hopefully Walker and the rest of the koch-heads are toast. We still have a lot of work to do. These signatures are the easy one. The low hanging fruit. I won't rest easy until we have 700,000 signatures.

This is a first step in derailing the money train. We might fail. We might win. But either way, we're full steam ahead.

59. But why do voters insist on believing ANYTHING that comes out of ANY Republicans' mouth?
We still haven't learned after decades of Republican lies!!

90. What happened is that the Pukes targeted Dem voters
Usually, they just aim their bullshit machine at the independent and swing voters. This time, people who were solid Dems had their mail boxes and airwaves stuffed with messages that undermined the base support. (I can speak to this from personal experience both from working on a state legislative campaign in another district and from being an "out there" Dem in my own district who had never had a mail box stuffed with so much Republicrap in my life)

The result was that Dems didn't turn out. In my county alone, we had almost the exact same number of voters turn out to vote for repugs as 2008. But we had a huge drop in Dem votes - far more than the Obama bump in 2008.

The only reason the puke Wurlitzer worked is that they smelled blood in the water. They knew the base was unhappy that "change" wasn't happening fast enough and they took advantage of it. In effect, the pukes played our weakness against us in Wisconsin and it turned out worse for us than the 2000 election. This time the disenchanted base put dozens of George W. Bushes in the state house and 1 Cheney Wanna-be in the Governor's mansion.

Hence, we fucked ourselves.

Hopefully that won't happen again for a long time.

67. It wasn't because people didn't vote-
it was because of who got to COUNT the votes.

Remember that.

78. It was not fraud.
It was a non presidential year. Feingold has always depended on some Republican votes and last year he didn't get them- it was the voter mood to throw out incumbents, and some Dems just stayed home because they were pissed at Obama. He lost by 80K votes and there is voter remorse. Johnson is a moron.

89. Actually, what happened in Wisconsin was because people didn't vote
In my county alone we had almost a 1/3 drop off in voters between 2008 and 2010.

The candidate I worked for in a neighboring county lost by 72 votes in a reelection campaign that saw fewer voters turn out for any election since he began campaigning in 2004. Essentially his win margin stayed home.

Sad, considering that all our efforts in 2010 were aimed at getting the first-time Obama voters from 2008 out to vote again. And they would probably have accounted for about half that drop-off.

Then again, maybe it was the disenchanted base that didn't turn out. If so, this time they put dozens of George W. Bushes in our state house and 1 Cheney in the governor's mansion.

77. We all commented on one of Walker's scummiest deeds last week
Walker's been running around like Henny Penny claiming the budgetary sky is falling, so we've got to get rid of teachers' unions and this and that and the other thing.

But somehow, he found the money to have Rebecca Kleefisch painted and piped into every TV in Wisconsin to plead to you not to exercise your constitutional right to fix Wisconsin's number-one problem.

And so...it looks like Wisconsinites are going to fix their number-one problem by sending this scumbag and his weather-girl light governor back where they came from. Which gives me the warm fuzzies.

87. Latest from WISDEMS Mike Tate & United Wisconsin
Latest Email from WisDem Party Chair Mike Tate: There have been several false blog posts and web updates claiming that the recall effort has a certain amount of signatures, or in one case that we have collected all that we need. All are false. Please don't believe any numbers unless they are officially released by United WI. Any numbers UW puts out will be corroborated by Wisdems. Please pass along.

Edited on Sun Nov-27-11 10:34 PM by MadisonMike
Not to burst anyones bubbles, but the false information is being spread by the Fake Recall group which is connected with Walker, and they're encouraging people to throw away any petitions that they havent turned in since they've "met their goal" Dont believe it, from the Dem Partys own Chairman

**Mods** Not to disrespect anyone, but if we can please either edit, or delete this post to prevent any more false information from being spread, the people of Wisconsin would appreciate it.

We appreciate the support and encouragement everyone is giving, but the last official number, was the 102,000+ that was released last week. Please continue to stay tuned for info, but as of right now, that information is bogus, no disrespect to the OP
