Herman Cain first GOP candidate to get Secret Service detail
Source: Los Angeles Times

Herman Cain will soon be the first Republican presidential candidate to be protected by a U.S. Secret Service detail, the agency said Thursday.

By law, major presidential candidates and their spouses automatically get Secret Service protection within 120 days of a presidential election. But the secretary of Homeland Security may also grant protective status to other candidates based on recommendations of an advisory committee composed mainly of congressional leaders.

... Edwin Donovan, a Secret Service spokesman, would not say ... whether there were any specific threats that spurred the decision to grant Cain protected status.

3. Another Waste of Taxpayer Dollars
He should pay for his own private Blackwater security detail. He can afford it.

Oh, and the term "congressional leaders." There's an oxymoron these days.

13. Fair enough
I have no problem with this. There are plenty of racist folks out there who don't care that he is a substance-less vanity candidate who is perfectly in line with all the Anti-american GOP platform ideals. His skin tone is wrong and he is in the news, and that's enough for some.

16. no one is making racist remarks to him but members of his own party
anything that's going on, he's making it up to make himself look like a victim. He's worse than palin on that tip... the professional victim. Whining all the time.

18. Agreed
The potential threat to him does come from the ranks of his own party. Those people are crazy.

And yes, he is a buffoon.

27. he wants SS protection to keep the PRESS away from him
not because there have been any real, proven threats against him.

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2011/11/18/1037742/-Herman-Cain-gets-Secret-Service-detail-to-protect-him-from-media?via=blog_1

Because if there were real threats against him, then why isn't his family also receiving the SS protection detail? He's ok leaving his wife and family exposed while he takes all of the protections for himself? Asshole, coward, professional victim and buffoon.

19. He doesn't need anyone
protecting him from any nutjob with a rifle. He needs someone to protect him from himself. I might disagree fervently with 90% of what the man has to say, but I seriously hate watching someone self destruct like that.
Herman: Learn some humility. You are not going to be the frontrunner for the GOP. Don't even worry about it. But you are wrong when you talk about your view that the president doesn't have to know anything to do the job. At least be prepared to know who the president or whatever of a country when your secretary tells you that you have a call from them.
And at least know what was done during the current administration. Events in Libya are still unfolding, with new things happening every day. Try to keep up, if you want a chance to lose to Obama in 2012. Otherwise it'll be Perry. And the country doesn't need him (Perry) front and center to be the thing that the rest of the world judges us by. As someone that makes pizza, you are the better candidate. You make pizza. Perry makes.. nothing.

25. Who on earth would try to take him out???
Those on the left want him in the race as long as possible, and those on the right are to too stupid to realize he's tanking their presidential run.
