Diebold May Face Criminal Charges (Wired)
Updated on the Wired story:

After harshly chastising Diebold Election Systems for what it considered deceptive business practices, a California voting systems panel ....

The panel also voted to send the findings of its recent Diebold investigation to the state's attorney general for possible criminal and civil charges against the firm for violating state election laws.

....
The panel also recommended that Shelley ask the state attorney general to examine the possibility of bringing civil and criminal charges against Diebold for violating California election codes, which state that vendors cannot change software without notifying the secretary of state's office. The codes also say that no vendor can install uncertified software on voting systems.

3. Agreed BHN.
What is so frustrating though, is that these criminal actions will have no bearing on elections that were already certified in California. Namely Swastikanegger's.

7. Ah, but think of the future!
As in, if these actions result in the
assurance of an honest election process
in the future, we'll be waving "buh-bye" to the
Hummer hog.
How many of those things does he own?
9????
What a jerk, eh?

8. AND our Dem primary.
Some fishy results in counties in which certain candidates who were expected to do well, didn't. Voters were TURNED AWAY FROM THE POLLS.

2. I think stealing a nation's entire gov't is grand larceny, isn't it?
Or is it just a misdemeanor with fine and the cost of doing business?

6. THIS move strikes at the very core of our objections ....
THe software and hardware, in tandem, MUST be strictly controlled; for content AND for custody .....

This is EXACTLY where we need to go ...

I wonder: Can Bev and the BBV crew at DU continue to stand under the sheer weight of the kudos they deserve ? ...

I SO adore you all ....

Again: ... Thank You ...

10. Way to go California
This is exactly the way you should treat criminals. Diebold should be decertified as a vendor and have civil and criminal charges brought against it. They are corrupt group of criminals.

12. Yes, but It's the Method That's the Problem
decertifying Diebold does no good if other companies step up with the same type of systems.

14. Here's what diebold should be replaced with.

Introducing the hand operated analog Model 2004 MkII PAPER and PENCIL.

No hanging chads.

Definate paper trail.

And no wireless hacking.

15. Actually ...
Such 'touch - screen' workstations CAN and SHOULD be used ...

TO CREATE PAPER BALLOTS ONLY ....

Which are then VERIFIED by the voter, who then places the PAPER BALLOT into a ballot box, which is THEN counted by optical scanner (another source of possible fraud, still have to watch THOSE like hawks ) ....

It must be noted: NO system of counting votes is absolutely free from fraud ... But paper ballots make it possible to manually REcount the votes without worrying about hanging or pregnant chads ....

So: dont toss out those Touchscreens yet: they are useful IF used in the proper manner ...
