Gas driller can stop supplying water to northeast PA town (Dimock - Gasland)

ALLENTOWN, Pa. -- Pennsylvania environmental regulators said Wednesday they have given permission to a natural-gas driller to stop delivering replacement water to residents whose drinking water wells were tainted with methane.

Residents expressed outrage and threatened to take the matter to court.

Cabot Oil & Gas Corp. has been delivering water to homes in the northeast village of Dimock since January of 2009. The Houston-based energy company asked the Department of Environmental Protection for approval to stop the water deliveries by the end of November, saying Dimock's water is safe to drink.

DEP granted Cabot's request late Tuesday, notifying the company in a letter released Wednesday morning. Scott Perry, the agency's acting deputy secretary for oil and gas management, wrote that since Cabot has satisfied the terms of a December settlement agreement requiring the company to remove methane from the residents' water, DEP "therefore grants Cabot's request to discontinue providing temporary potable water."

3. As a Pennsylvanian, the only thing I can say is: YOU VOTED FOR HIM.
You voted for a governor and an administration who believes your life means nothing when weighed against corporate profit. I'm sorry, but as long as people can get the wool pulled over their eyes, there's not hope and no help.

Maybe this little travesty will help bring about a change in the weather here in my state, but I'm not counting on it. The good people of PA seem to have an appetite for self-immolation.

6. Don't you think this has been in play for awhile?
It's not just about party, it's about who is greasing the wheels and what they can get out of it.
Hell, I met Rendell a few times and I wouldn't trust him to feed my cat unless I provided enough vigorish to make sure he did it right. There is no D/R or red/blue anymore it's only GREEN.

Unfortunately my attitude the last few years about politics is the same as it was in the 70's. You can't trust any politician unless you know who is greasing their palm and who has there ear.

BTW: I didn't vote for Corbett. Unfortunately, my county did. (if you believe the ISS I-Votronic pieces of shit)

I tried to fight this but I don't have the money, contacts, or time to fight alone. Be real, there are only a small percentage of us who have a clue what is going on, most people have a life, a job, bills to pay, etc. Then there are those who take the soma of TV when they have a chance.

How many man hours of work does it take to counter millions of $ and countless hours of advertising?

Pardon my rant, but you did start off with blaming "you". If you hadn't figured out by now those of us here are among the better informed and working for the interest of the country, hell the whole world. It really hurts to know you can't even achieve a small success.

9. You know it's an uphill climb when homeowners with poisoned wells
willingly sign off on oil company culpability with little/no compensation and resign themselves to having to get water from the truck down the street from now on ...

I know a family who did just that. And all their neighbors did it as well.

How do you push back when you've got balls & chains of stupid like that to haul too? Short answer: You can't.

7. All right! Government getting out of the way of business!
That ought to drive up profits! Next the gas company should just be able to remove people from property in order to get at profits! Why should the government have a problem with this?

:sarcasm:
