Obama to firefighters: GOP will decide jobs

President Obama wrapped up his three-day bus trip through North Carolina and Virginia today by telling a group of firefighters that public safety jobs across the country basically depend on congressional Republicans.

"We'll see if they'll fight just as hard for your jobs as they fight for their jobs," Obama told members of Fire Station 9 in North Chesterfield, Va.

Obama noted that Senate Republicans voted to block consideration of his $447 billion jobs bill; Democrats plan to introduce the bill piece by piece, starting with provisions to provide jobs for teachers, police and firefighters.

"These are the choices Congress will be presented with in the next few weeks," Obama said.

4. I wonder how the firefighters feel about Obama? They used to be staunch republicans. I guess

now that the wingers want to cut and cut and destroy unions, its cutting close to home for them. Many in our area are now staunchly labor minded. What a change when your job might be in peril.

5. The GOP wants to privatize fire departments so you can shop around

pick your own fire department $5000 to put your stove fire out. Maybe the one down the one was slightly cheaper? Just think private fire departments competing for business!
