Suspect charged with murder in Missouri girl's disappearance
Source: CNN

(CNN) -- A 43-year-old Missouri man has been charged with first-degree murder in the disappearance of a 3-year-old girl last seen a week ago riding her bicycle, the Dunklin County prosecuting attorney said Saturday.

Shawn Morgan of Senath has also been charged with armed criminal action and tampering with physical evidence, according to Dunklin County Prosecuting Attorney Stephen Sokoloff.

"It is charged that Morgan caused the death of (Breeann Rodriguez) by suffocating her," Sokoloff said in a statement.

The suspect is being held at the Dunklin County Justice Center.

4. To be sure it's wrong to murder anyone let alone a childbut
but why do so many parents let there children ride off or walk off unattended? It's best to be pro-actionary if at all possible.

5. I couldn't imagine letting our 4 year old grandchild wander off and get abducted
We live next door to our son and his wife and child and none of us will let her out of our sights for a second let alone minutes or hours.
When I was a kid it was pretty common for us kids to take to the woods and play all day but that was in a different era. An era where we weren't inundated with weirdos like some places seem to be today.

7. Do kids not ride their bikes on their neighborhood streets anymore?
I thought that was considered okay, in some neighborhoods. No?

I wouldn't allow it here where I live. Come to think of it, 3 years old is too young to be alone. Come to think of it...isn't 3 years old too young to be able to ride a bike?

10. Not out here we won't be allowing her
but then again she has a big yard to play in and a couple grand parents to play with. The first toy that a grand child learns to operate is us grand parents. :-)

8. Unattended? WTF? This is NOT normal.
"The girl was last seen August 6, riding with her brother in front of their home in Senath."

Yeah, it's the parents fault all right. They should have kept the girl in a metal box in the back yard. :sarcasm:

One of these decades, maybe, our society will be ready to start talking about why we create so many of this kind of criminal, and what we can do about it. I hope I'm alive for it, as all my interesting thoughts on the subject pertain to that discussion and not this one, but I'm not counting on it.

For me, to live in a world where I have to spy on my kids 24/7 to keep some evil monster from despoiling them is already to have lost the war, not just the battle. In that world, you need to teach your children to kill reliably by the time they can hold a gun, and you need to build a walled compound around your house, with food, water, and energy sourced from within. I had a friend who came over here from Vietnam in 1975, at age 15 or so, who told me about that world. Take my word, we do NOT want Missouri to get like that. Don't kid yourself things can't get worse - or better.

9. What is wrong, is they do something stupid and quite possibly evil...
...and then panic. Most perverts don't WANT to murder babies, but nor do they want treated as the public promises to treat them.

It is exactly the same thinking (taken to an untennable extreme) which causes perfectly ordinary (and apparently decent) members of society to not involve themselves with an obviously lost and distressed child for fear that they will be mistaken for being the problem rather than attempting to effect a rescue.

Really which is worse? The sick individual who kills a child in a blind panic, or the sane one who rationally leaves a child to survive or die by their own wits?

6. Oh, dear God. That poor child. I can't imagine the thoughts and fear of an innocent child...
as she is experiencing an inthinkable horror.
