Armani Opens in Shanghai, Targeting China's Newly Affluent

SHANGHAI, China (AP) - Giorgio Armani opened a flagship store Saturday on Shanghai's famed riverfront Bund, joining a wave of foreign designer brands targeting China's new rich.

The unveiling of the 12,000-square-foot cluster of boutiques drew curious stares from elderly men taking their morning strolls down the majestic row of 20th century buildings.

They peered through the windows at sandals and handbags costing far more than most Shanghainese earn in a month.
