DOJ Asks Supreme Court To Lift Ban On Union Law
Judge Maryann Sumi Invalidates Law On Thursday

MADISON, Wis. -- State attorneys asked the Wisconsin Supreme Court on Friday to immediately vacate a Madison judge's decision striking down Republican Governor Scott Walker's collective bargaining law.

Judge Maryann Sumi invalidated the law on Thursday after finding Republican legislators violated Wisconsin's open records law during the run-up to passage in March.

The state Justice Department is representing the Republicans. The agency's attorneys asked the state Supreme Court to take the case, and the court set oral arguments on whether it should make a move for June 6.

Deputy Attorney General Kevin St. John said in a letter to the justices late Friday they need to act now.

1. Why don't/didn't they just re-vote?

I'm really starting to think part of their plan is to demoralize the opposition. If they can ram this through when they clearly violated the law, what does that due to the spirit and resolve of the law's opposition? It take the wind right out of their sails.

3. If they revote

they will force the 6 recalled senators to vote to get rid of collective bargaining twice. Great fodder for the recall elections.

Maybe the republicans don't have the votes this time. With all of the "safe republican" special elections going to democrats, republicans may be thinking twice about supporting an unpopular bill. We'll see.

2. The WISC would be wise to ignore the appeal

allowing the judge's decision to stand.

Open Meetings Laws aren't something that the Republicans should be fucking around with.

Now they're going to probably pass legislation before their recall to invalidate the OML.
