Terrorism, massive debt, zombies -- there seems to be no end to the threats facing the United States government.

So while U.S. President Barack Obama prepares for his re-election campaign in… wait a second, zombies?

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released a lengthy blog post this week on how to survive a zombie apocalypse -- the normally serious scientists taking a new approach to educating the public on emergency awareness.

Dave Daigle, a longtime CDC spokesperson, told MSNBC he was looking at new ways to engage with people with an old message.

4. Guns run out of ammo.
Shovels, bats, and machetes don't. Plus, the sound of gunshots would attract other zombies. Shovels are silent. :)

14. Silent?
I suspect you've never hit anyone with a shovel.

25. You're right. I've never hit anyone with a shovel.
I have to imagine that it's quieter than a gunshot, and I still maintain that it wouldn't run out of ammo. :)

21. Missile Weapons Don't Work on Zombies
Edited on Thu May-19-11 12:29 PM by AndyTiedye
Bullets go right through them, and none of those organs are exactly "vital" anymore, so shooting not only doesn't "stop" them, it doesn't even slow them down much.
Shotguns will slow them down more, but you only get 1 or 2 shots, and that's not enough. They'd be on you while you tried to reload.

Longswords (the longer the better) can dismember them, which is what needs to happen with zombies.

6. I thought for sure it meant zombie banks.
They had a good weapon in Paul Volcker, but Obama seems intent on keeping them in their undead state.

and the real message should be:

If trouble starts, you are on your own. Don't look for Uncle Sam to help you. He's too busy sending billions to Tunisia and Egypt...

13. I totally disagree

People will always need to be prepared to look after themselves in any emergency. Telling people how to do this is a responsibility of any government.

This particular treatment of the topic is a creative way of packaging old information in a new and interesting manner, particularly for a younger audience. I think it's brilliant.

9. Has anybody ever seen a zombie movie???
Night of the living dead, etc? Hell, all you need is a good pair of jogging shoes! They usually seem to have only one good leg and drag the other behind them, moving at a snails pace. It's werewolves that I worry about.

11. thats the thing, every set of movies has different zombies...
romero claimed they couldnt run because of their weak ankles from being dead, that they would snap if they ran.

his partner in crime however made them more agile and able to solve problems in the 'return' series of the living dead. they also couldnt be stopped very easily, whacking the head off wasnt the solution as in night of the living dead.

then you have the current movies like 28 days, in which apparently they can run like track stars.... lol

16. In 28 days later,
they were not zombies, but they were normal humans infected with a rage virus. Big difference. They were still alive, and a head shot was not necessary to kill them. They could be killed by a shot to center mass, or starvation (the military's plan) or cougar attack.

17. depends on your definition of zombie..
if being clinically dead is a requirement, then they arent.

if being mindless and driven by one impulse is enough, they are.

zombies exsist in the insect world, and im pretty sure they are still living creatures.

22. But for the
interest in preparedness and combating the problem, you have vastly different strategies. For the infected, you have the option of waiting them out. They need food and oxygen, or they die. Romero's zombies do not need either of these. They can exist at the bottom of a lake (which is how the infection in World War Z started in China).
They may all be zombies but I'd rather it be the Infected than WWZ/Romero's zombies.

19. Glad we've got such bright minds
looking out for us...

Yeah, I think I understand what's being attempted here. Is the populace though, really so uneducated or ignorant that we need zombie comparisons to tell us what to do in an emergency?

Here's the real deal with more than enough information to get one started in case of Zombie Apocalypse with government running amok.
