WASHINGTON, May 2 (Reuters) - DNA tests on the body of Osama bin Laden showed a virtual 100 percent match to relatives, and a woman believed to be his wife also identified him by name, a senior U.S. intelligence official told reporters on Monday.

The United States was now reviewing a large cache of materials seized at the compound in Pakistan where U.S. forces killed bin Laden, the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity to reporters.

"Those materials are currently being exploited and analyzed and a task force is being set up at CIA ... given the volume of materials collected at the raid site," the official said.

10. DNA comparisons usually takes 6-24 hr to run the gels

Depending on just how accurately you want the results to be (longer run times give more detail and more accuracy).

The biggest problem is just that there are only so many labs to do the work, only so many lab techs staffing the labs (most of them underpaid to boot) and a HUGE backlog of tests to run.

Of course, it's been a few years since I did any DNA testing, so the technology has definitely improved to allow for more accuracy in less time.
