Soldiers missing after attack
By staff writers and AFP
April 10, 2004

TWO US soldiers were confirmed missing today after an attack on their convoy in Iraq, with fears they could be the latest in a series of kidnap victims.

Information from the US military on the incident followed unconfirmed claims four Italians and two Americans had been captured.

Military spokesman Justin McCue said: "There are two soldiers missing as a result of an attack on the convoy today ... the attack occured right around Baghdad International Airport." He said it was unknown if the soldiers had been abducted by insurgents following a flurry of kidnappings of foreigners across Iraq in recent days.

Earlier today, US Central Command announced that a member of the 13th Corps Support Command had been killed and 12 wounded in an attack on their convoy near Baghdad International Airport. It was not immediately known if the missing soldiers were part of the same convoy.

1. Sadly
We may have to swallow our pride and at least consider negotiating with the captors if a rescue mission is not possible. I don't normally favor doing such a thing, but this whole war was fought for nothing and for a lie. To just cold-bloodedly sacrifice these two men would be an appalling act of disloyalty.

2. Bush wouldn't mind them dying
I think the administration would (cold-bloodedly) find the propaganda value of their deaths to be very great. It will become the justification for leveling Fallujah. Bushco is loyal to oil, nothing more.

10. I don't think they will ever find them. Did you see that convoy in flame
Anyone caught in the middle of that explosion has been vaporized it pains me to say. I really do hope they have been captured...at least they would be alive but I doubt it.

3. It's an impossible call
To have these soldiers die in great pain for no worthy purpose is intolerable. Negotiating with the captors, perhaps encouraging more of the same, is also intolerable, yet we come from no moral high ground ourselves. Which do you pick? :(

5. Yes It Is Sad
While those here might swallow their pride and consider negotiating to free the captives, the Coalition won't.

Mr. Senor, the man who's always standing next to Kimmitt, stated today that the CPA will not negotiate, and when did a Republican hack like Senor ever give you the impression that they care about
the people in uniform?

The CPA is filled with Rethug hacks and shills, who could probably care less about two missing soldiers, especially if it interferes
with their bunker coktail parties!!!

4. By the airport? Isn't that the main US Military Base?
Wow, these 'insurgents' are formidable. Or is the US military not commanded well. Hey, where *is* the commander in chief? AWOL? Fishing?
